This invention relates to means 'for removing stockings from forms, and constitutes an 'nprovement :on `the device .shown and described in a prior U. S. Patent No.'1,126,619, issued to Harry Coulston and Taller M. Schwartz, under date of January 26, 1915.

1 As shown and described in the/said prior patent, a series oll stocking forms are movably mounted in spaced relation on a suitable frame embodied in a suitable drying apparatus. In passing through the drying apparatus the stocking forms assumo a substantially vertical position and as each stocking form emerges from the drying apparatus it assumes a substantially 'horizontal position, the toe and heel portions of the form, with a stocking thereon, entering between jaws or lingers of a gripping device, which, as the stocking form continues to be moved along the drier frame, holds the stocking tightly, whereupon the form is Withdrawn from the stocking.

rllhe top portion of the stocking beingv stretched'over the larger or broader part of the stocking form clings closely to this portion of the form, and thereby presents a certain resistance to the removal ot the stocking from the form, and this resistance, 1n the case ot the modern sheer stockings, has a tendency to stretch the stocking and to cause the stocling fabric to break or separate at one place or another, due to the pull on the stocking beingY applied at one end andthe greaterresistance being applied at or adjacent the opposite end.

in order to prevent this stretching or tearing ot the stocking, l have devised a means i'or assisting in the removal of the stocking from the form, which is adapted to apply its energy at or adjacent the place Where the greater resistance prevails.

Each of the stocking forms B is carried by a suitable mechanism having a portion 'or shank 1 which rides in a suitable slot a in `the frame A.

The means for moving the forms B along the frame A and other operating parts of the drier have not been shown, being clearly illustrated in the above mentioned prior patent and forming no part of the present invention.

The present invention comprises a suitable pad 1 having a suitably roughened or friction surface 2 Whichis adapted vto engage the stocking C on the form B adjacent the top c1 of the stocking, Which, as shown, is applied to the Wider portion of the form B.

- In the present instance, I" have shown the pad las comprising a stiii bristle brush which performs the requisite function, i. e. starting the stocking oil the form, quite efficiently.

T he startingpad 1 is secured to one end of an arm 8, the opposite end of which is pivotally attached, as at 4, to one end of an operating lever 5, see Figs. 3, 4 and 7.

In a device for stripping stockings from forms comprising means for gripping the stocking and means for effecting relative movement between the form and the stocking gripping means, the combination therewith of a start-ing pad, an arm on which said pad is secured, means for moving said arm longitudinally, a latch adapted to engage said arm during its longitudinal movement to deflect said arm into 'a pathy disposed at an angle to the said longitudinal movement thereof, whereby said pad will engage the stocking and move the Vtop portion thereof toward the foot portion thereof and relative to the stockingform for staiting the stripping operation, and means for releasing the deflecting latch from engagement with the said arm.

In a device for stripping stockings from forms comprising means for gr'ipping the stocking andmeans for effecting relative movement between the form andthe stocking gripping means, the combination therewith' of a starting pad, an arm on which said pad is secured, means for moving said arm longitiidinally, a latch adapted to engage said arm during its longitudinal movement to deflect said arm into a path disposed at an angle to the said longitudinal movement thereof, whereby said pad will kengage the stocking and move the top portion thereof toward the foot portion thereof and relative to the stocking` form for starting the stripping operation, means for releasing the detlecting latch from engagement with the said arm, and means for returning the arm and the pad to their normal positions for the start ofv another cycle of operations.

7; In a device for stripping stockings from forms comprising means for gripping the stocking and means for effecting relative movement between the form and the stocking gripping means, the combination therewith of a starting pad, an arm on which said pad is secured, means for moving said arm longitudinally, a latch adapted to engage said arm during its longitudinal movement to deflect said arm into a 1 path disposed at an angle to the said longitudinal movement thereof, whereby said pad will engage thestocking and move the top portiony thereof toward the foot portion thereof and relative to the stocking form for starting the stripping operation, means for releasing` the deflecting latch from engagement with the said arm, means for returning the arm and the pad to their normal positions for the start of another cycle of operations, and means for guiding the arm through its cycle of operations.

whereby said arm is deflected and said pad `is caused to engage the stocking carried by another of lsaid forms, continued movement of said arm causing said pad to move the top portion of the stocking carried by the engaged form toward the foot portion thereof and relative to said form for starting the stripping operation, and means for releasing said deflecting latch from said projection to lremove the pad from contact with the stocking.
