Description
Abril 30, 1929. A. A. SMITH INTERCHANGEABLE LAMP BRACKET Filed June 1927 Patented Apr. 30, 1929.
ALFRED A. SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
INTERCHANGEABLE LAMP BRACKET.
Application filed June 9, 1927.
This invention relates to lamp fixtures and more particularly to a construction whereby certain parts of the fixture may be interchanged and quickly ad' iusted and assembled a in different positions.
A. further object of my invention includes a construction of electric light :nipports and outlet box cover plates which are simple in construction neat in appearance. substantial ui and serviceable in use and wherein the cover plate is easily shifted and fastened in varying positions as conditions and positions oi the outlet box may require.
Other objects will appear hereinaiter and i.) I obtain these objects by the constructions illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of a construction having my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a view taken on the line of Fig. 1 with the cover plate in vertical position a, shown by the dotted lines.
Figs. 3 and l are views of a portion of said lamp brackets and showing the supporting lugs, and
Fig. 5 is a portion of the outlet box cover plate.
Like reference numerals refer to the same parts throughout the several views.
It is a prime purpose of my invention to produce an electric light fixture which can be quickly assembled or applied in var he nositions. To this end I provide a cover of neat and attractive design and h Jgo enough to cover the outlet box ll which may he set in the wall or door frame 12, either vertically or horizontally. The cover plate is provided with an outer border skirt 13 and acentrally disposed dome 14: which is provided with an angular opening 15. In the illustrative construction I have shown the opening 15 to be rectangular, but other annular openings may be used. without departing;' from-the spirit and scope of my invention.
Serial No. 197,529.
I also provide a bracket holding plate or bar 16 which is fastened on the outlet box 11, by screws 17. In the center of said plate or bar, 1 provide an anchor rod 18, which is preferably screw-threaded to engage the bar 16, and locked by a lock-nut 19. The free end oi the screw rod 18 extends through the opening 15 to engage the lightbracket 20. lllhis bracket provided with lugs 21 which tit into the angular opening 15 to engz the dome part of the plate in varying posi r In the rectangular construction shown ay be applied horizontally as shown in .tull li es in Fig. 1, or it may be held verbally shown in Fig. 2, or by the dotted s 1 in. l. This provision is a great auvantage for quickly and inexpensively installing light fixtures. A nut 22 holds the parts assembled as shown and a double armed bracket is shown a preferred form. Ohviously, however, diiicrent types of arms may be used in connection with my invention without departing from the sec} i and spirit the!- oi lVhat I claim therefore, as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A light fixture and cover plate tor coveriii out let bone in vertical or horizontal posi- 1 .s cover plate having a skirt and dome with a rectangular openingtherein. an anchor bar on said outlet box, a screw threaded rod extending from said bar through openingin said dome. a light bracket having a bore to receive said screw-threaded rod. lugs in said bracket to engage the angular o iening in said dome in a position to hold the cover-plate firmly over the outl t box: in either horizontal or vertical positions and means for securing the cover plate and brawl;- ct in said fined re ation.
ALFRED A. SMl'lll.
