DOOR HOLDER.

The present invention relates to improvements in door holders or stops by which a door may be held in an open or partly open position; and it consists in certain novel features and combinations of parts aiming to improve upon such structures as are disclosed in Letters Patent 693,567 issued February 18, 1902 to Rosentreter.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a door holder of this nature'which is exceedingly simple in its construction, easy to manipulate, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufac ture, and thoroughly eflicient and reliable in use and operation.
With the above and numerous other objects 3 in View as will appearas the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Figure 5 is a perspective view of the rod. Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen, that the numeral 10 designates the face plate which is fastened to the door and of elongated outline. The plate 10 has at a substantially central portion near its lower portion a hub 11 to receive pivot pins 12 for the lever 13 and at one side of said hub 11 said plate 10 is formed with the horizontal laterally projecting edge flange 14 while at the other side of said hub 11 the lower edge of said plate isrecessed as is indicated at 15. The plate 10 is substantially coextensive in length with the lever 13, which is substantially horizontal in its inoperative position, and said plate ,10 above the shank end of the lever 13 extends upwardly as at 16 to a greater extent above the tag end of said lever. The lever 13 is in the form of a frame comprising a top 17 and a front or outer side 18, and said lever is formed at one end with a socket 19 and about its center with a horizontal hub 20, the latter extending inwardly from the front side 18 to the hub 11, formed on the base plate 10.

A rod 27 has a notch 28 atone end to receive the pin 23 and is bifurcated as at 29 at the other end which bifurcation tapers inwardly for receiv ing the edge of the fulcrum plate 25.
A flange 30 is formed on the rod 27 adja cent the notched end 28. A spring 31 of the coil type is disposed about the rod 27 and impinges against-the plate 25 and. against the flange 30. During the employment of the holder the rod 27 is adapted to have a pivotal position in which said rod isillustrated in dotted lines in Figure 1 to the inclined position in which said rod is indicated, inifull lines in Figure 1 and then backto its horizontal position.
The spring 31 is in a state of compression both when the lever 13 is in its horizontal or inoperative position as well as when said lever is in its operative position and when the lever 1.3 is in its operative position the spring 31 operates by its expansive force to bind the tabs 31 in engagement with the floor.
Should thepad come over a depression in action on the pin 23 and plate 25'from the the floor the lever13 is limited to the d-ownward movement to cause the bifurcation '29 to limit the movement of the rod 27 and thus the parts are prevented from coming apart. In the employment of the holder, the base plate 10, being fastened to the door, the lever 13 will be allowed to remain in its inperative position, except when it is desired to hold the door opener partly open position, and at such time the attendant will press his foot upon the pad end of the lever 13 until the pin 23 has the tab above the horizontal central plane of the pivot pin .12 and at such time the expansive force of the spring 13 will drive the tab 21 against the floor and, binding the tab against the floor will hold the door in its open or partly open position.

for the purpose or closing'the same, the attendant will press with his foot upon the shank end. of the lever 13 until by the driving downward of the said end of the lever, the pin 23 has passed into line with or below the central horizontal plane of the pivot pin point intermediate its ends to said base plate and being normally horizontally disposed in a'line with said base plate, a pin projecting from said base plate, a plate projecting from said base plate in spaced relation to said pin, a rod notched at one end to receive the pin and bifurcated at its opposite end for reception of the last mentioned plate, said bifurcation being sulficiently long so that the rod may slide on said last mentioned plate, and a coil spring on the rod and compressed be-- tween the last mentioned plate and a flange on the rod and adapted to operate by its expansive force to bind said lever in its respective positions, and a pad on one end of the lever remote from said last mentioned plate.
2. In a door holder, a base plate fastened to a door, a lever pivotally secured at a point intermediate its ends to said base plate and being normally horizontally disposed in a line with saidb'ase plate, a'pin projecting from said-base plate, a plate projecting'from said base plate in spaced relationto said pin, a rod having a notched end to receive the pin and being bifurcated at its opposite end for reception of the last mentioned plate, said bifurcation being sufliciently long so that the rod may slide on said last mentioned plate, and a coil spring on the rod and compressed between the last'mentione'd plate and a flange on the rod and adapted to operate by its expansive force to'bind said lever in its respective positiornand a pad on one end of the lever remote from said last mentioned plate, a flange projecting from the base plate adjacent the second mentioned plate and functioning as a stop for the downward movement of the adjacent end of the lever.
