:BUILDING Applicatin filed June- 9 The present invention relates to an improved building structure and particularly an improved means for temporarily supporting pans or forms in floor1v or roof constructionjof a concrete nature such as are n'ow usedin fireproof buildings.
In this improved structure, a steel form,
pan or arch is attached tothe bottom flange v of a steel joist Yby means of special clips.-
An important phase of this invention is in the provision of` light bar truss joists as reinforcement for concrete, and ait the'same time acting asa centering and support for steel forms.
Another object of! importance is tofp'rovide novel fastening' meanson truss joists cooperative with novel concrete forms for supporting the latter in position to form a mold. Y In this method of construction, only one floor of pans are needed to construct a building of any number of floors since these pans `may be removed without, in any way, caus-r ing damage or undue strain on the concrete after the concrete has taken its initial set.
An important object of the invention lies in the provision of a structure of this nature which eliminates practically all shoring and the like thereby effecting a large saving in the building construction.
Another very important object of the invention lies in the provision of a structure of this nature which is simple, inexpensive, strong and durable, easy to handle and manipulate, adjustable, thoroughly eflicient and reliable, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the
4o invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing indetail, it will be seen that the letter (A) denotes one form ofthe joist'structure which is in two, three or five parts, with an expandedweb 5 having the narrow top flanges 6 with their edges bentdownwardl as at 7 and the wide bottom flanges 8 wit their edges bent upwardly as at 9. The webs 5 are expanded in order thatthe concrete may project therethrough. It will: further be notedthat top flange 6 is narrower than bottomv fiange 8.
In Figure 4, another form-'of the joist has been noted generally by the letter (A), and includes a top bar 11, a bottom flange 12, having its side edges bent upwardly as at 13, and connecting reinforcement 14 of the truss type, and pieces of which are welded or otherwise secured to the bar 11 and along the medium longitudinal dimension of the flange 12.
These joists (A) or (A) will be supported in any desired manner so as to be disposed in parallel spaced relation and to eX- tend horizontally. The letters B denote generally the cores, pans, or arches, each of which comprises atop plate 15 the side edges of which merge into outwardly and downwardly slanting extensions 16 which in turn merge into depending substantially vertical aprons 17 having a plurality of series of apertures 18 disposed vertically therein.
The letters F denote the clips each of which is formed from a sheet of metal bent, stamped or cast in the formation clearly shown in Figure 5 so as to provide a body 20, the lower edge of which merges into an oblique extension 21 disposed obtusely thereto and merging into a tongue 22 extending downwardly and in a plane parallel to the plane of the body 20 and offset therefrom. An offset lip 23 is struck from the body 20. An offset lip 24 is formed on the upper end of the body. The ends of the lips 23 and 24 are disposed in substantially the same plane, which plane is parallel and spaced from the plane of the body 20.

The steel joists will serve as reinforcing for the concrete and also as centering for the steel cores or pansG, thus effecting .a large saving. The only shoring necessary will be one shore under the middle of a long span." The` absence of forms and shoring will Venable the contractor to proceed vwith the work in a very fast and efficient manner. The floor space will be left clear forv the storagev of materials and the proper eXecution of work by the various crafts and sub-contractors.
It is thought that the construction, utility, and advanages of this invention willbe quite apparent to .those skilled in this art without a more detailedY description thereof. The present embodiments of the features of the invention 'have been disclosed in detail merely by way of `example since in actual practice they attain the features of advantage enumer'ated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the de tails of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts maybe resorted to without departing Afrom `the spirit or scope of the invention as Y hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of itsadvantages.
Having thus described-my invention, what I claim as new isi-j vIn combination, a pair of joists each h aving a flange at the top and bottom thereof, the side edges of the bottom ianges being directed upwardly, a pan positioned between the joists, and means engaged with the panV extending to the inner sides of said side edges and resting on the bottom iange.
