Description
NrTED STATES MELBOURNE O. EURE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT PATENT QEEIGE.,
TO FRANCES LEE WILLIAMS, OF SAME PLACE, AND ELIZA E. NEWPORT,
OF BRAINARD, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN G AME APPARATUS.'
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,707, dated December 7, 1875; application filed l November 1, 1875.
T 0 all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MELBOURNE C. BURR, of Minneapolis, in the State of Minnesota, have invented a new and Improved Game, which I have denominated Grelot5 and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus used, (shown in position.) Fig. 2 is a cross-section.
My invention relates tothat class of games analogous to croquet, martel, Snc.; and it consists in bowling a certain number of balls at a swinging target-ball, the players being at xed distances from the target-ball, as hereinafter more specifically described.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out. i
In the said drawings, A A are two standards properly secured to the lawn. Their tops are connected by a cross-bar, C, having a central opening, c, crossed by a bar or rod, b. From this rod depends a pivoted swinging support, E, for holding the target-ball E',
a ring, g. l, 2, and 3 are stakes, at different distances from which the player must bowl.
The game consists in bowling eight or more balls at the target-ball E until one party has, by striking the target-ball and ringing the bell, gained four times as many points as there are balls used in the game-that is, in a gaine with eight balls, thirty-two counts make the game. The target is placed in between the two series of stakes, so each side can recover the balls used by the others.
I am aware that swinging bells have been before mounted as objects for playing against; but this is not my invention. 4
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a game apparatus, thestandards A A and cross-bar C, provided with the pivoted support E, ball E', and bell G, all combined and arranged to operate substantially as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
MELBOURNE. C. BURR.
Witnesses:
C. J. WEST,
VERNON BELL.
