. My invention relates to household appliances and particularly to collapsible household appliances which may be employed as tables and the like. The invention has among its other objects the production of devices of the kind described, which'are extremely neat and attractive in appearance, simple, convenient, compact, reliable and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable.

One form of the invention is embodied in a collapsible device which may be employed as an ironing board or a step ladder. The ironing board and step ladder have common supporting members and the step ladder forms a base-for the ironing board when the device is used as an ironing board. l Vhen the device is used as a step ladder, the ironing board may be folded out oftheway. In the preferred embodiment of the invention the height of the ironing board may be adjusted to suit the desires of the user. Many other objects and advantages of the construction herein shown and. described will be obvious to thoseskilled in'the art from the disclosure herein given. I

Tothis end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims. I

As shown in igs. 1 and 2, the bent bars 24 are preferably provided with extensions 30 adapted to engage the bent bars 21 when the legs 10 andv 19 are brought into their fully extendedpositions. This construction insures that the device will not collapse while it is being used as a step ladder. A plurality of'feet33 are preferably secured to the legs 10 so that the device may be readily positioned as illustrated in Fig. 3 to permit it to be used as an ironing board.

The reference character 35 indicates a conventional ironing board, which may be of any suitable size, shape and material; Se-

cured to the under surface of the board 35 are bracket members 37 and 3'8. A pair of links 39 pivotally secured to the bracket 38 connect the bracket 38 with the leg members 19, the links 39 being pivotally secured to the leg members 19 by bolts 40. Pivotally secured to the bracket 37 by bolts or rivets i2 are flat bars M, which, at their free ends, carry a bolt 45. The belt also passes through the free ends of a pair of bent bars 46 which pivotally secured to the legs 19 by bolts 48.

The board 35 may be lowered from the position wherein it is shown in full lines in Fig. 8 to any desired position such as, for instance, the one wherein it is shown in dotted lines in the same ligure.

hen the improved device is used as a step ladder, the board 35 is preferably folded into the position wherein it is shown in Fig. 1. Obviously, when the board is in this position, it will not interfere with the placing of the step ladder in any desired position. The links 39 are preferably provided to insure that the work being ironed will not come in contact with the bottom end surface of the legs 19 when the device is used as an ironing board.

Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention,

hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described or uses mentioned.

V3 hat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a device of the kind described, a pair of leg members connected by cross bars, a second pair of leg members adjustable with respect to the first-mentioned pair of members, adjustable means intermediate the pairs of leg members for holding the second pair of legs in an extended position,a board carried by the second. pair of leg members, and adjustable means intermediate the board and the second pair of leg members and cooperating with the fir mentioned adjustable means for holding the board in a plurality of adjusted positions.

2. In a device oi the kind described, a pair of spaced legs, a plurality of cross bars joining said spaced legs, a second pair of spaced'lcgs connected at one end to one end of said iii-st pair, means for ajusrably spacing the other end of one pair of legs from the other end or the other pair, an ironing board, said ironing board connected at one end to said second pair oi? legs at the end thereof opposite that connected to said first pair 01 legs, and means for adjustably spacing the other end of said ironing board from said second pair of legs.

3. in a device of the kind described, a pair of spaced legs having cross connecting same, an ironing board opposite said pair of legs, a second pair of legs pivotally connected adjacent one end to a point adacent one end of said first pair of legs,

said second pair or legs adjacent their other end pivotally connected to said ironing board, a pan of bars pivotal-1y connected to said first pair of legs, a second pair of bars pivotaliy connected to said econd pair,

of legs, said pairs of bars pivotally connected to each other, means at the pivotal point of said pairs of bars for securing same in adjusted position, a third'pair of: bars pivotally connected to said ironing'board, a fourth pair of bars pivotally connected to said second pair oi? legs, and means for adjustably securing said third and fourtl'r pairs of the bars to each other.

4. In a device of: the kind described, a pair of spaced legs, a second pair of legs pivotaliy connected thereto at one end, means for adjustably spacing the other end of said second pair of legs from said first pair,-a pair of links connected to said last mentioned end of said second pair of legs, an ironing board, said links connected to points adjacent one end of said ironing board, and collapsible means for adjustably spacing the free end of said ironing board from said second pair of legs.
