J. KORKAMES TRAY Filed Feb. 26, 1927 Patented Mar. 19, 1929.
UNITED A E PATENT OFFICE- I JOE KORKAMES, or TEMPLE, TEXAS.
TRAY.
i Application filed February 26, 1927. Serial No. 171,156.
This invention relates to improvements in trays and more particularly to such as are employed for handling glasses and other containers for drinksand. foods-one object of the invention being to provide a tray of the character specified which shall ,be sanitary in every respect and which shall be so constructed as to effectually avoid the accidental overturning of glasses or other articles, such as ice cream cones. V
A further object is to so construct the tray that it may be applied in a horizontal position to the upper edge'portion of an automobile door or the lower portion of the window opening of a door and securely held and provided at its edges with upturned flanges 2, and the tray may be supported on a table or counter, by means of legs 3 depending from the body of the tray adjacent the corners thereof. These legs may conveniently consist of heavy wire bent into disposed against the underside of the, body of the tray near the longitudinal, edges of the latter and rigidly securedin any suitable manner.
The body of the tray is provided with a plurality of openings 6 for the accommodation of glasses, mugs, cones or similar containers. These openings are surrounded by upwardly projecting sleeves 7 which may be" formed integral with the body of the tray by pressing the metal upwardly and said sleeves serve effectually to hold the containers in upright positions and prevent their accidental overturning. Those porwith holders, such as above described, may serve to receive dishes containing ice cream or other food.
A sleeve bracket 8 is secured to the bottom of the tray transversely thereof and U-shape and having arms or extensions k5.
tions of the tray which are not provided preferably centrally between the ends of the tray. This sleeve is provided with a slotted extension 9 having a plurality of notches 10 in one wall of the slot. A rod 11 is longitudinally movable through the sleeve and isalso capable of turning. A' clamping head 12 is removably secured to one end of the rod'by means of a set screw'13 or in any other suitable manner. The other end of the rod is provided with a handle 14 and also with a removable pin 15 to engage one i or another of the notches 10; A spring 16 encircles the slotted extension of the sleeve and bears at one end against one end of the sleeve, abutments 17 being provided at the free end of the extension for the other end of said spring and the removable pin 15 may project between convolutions of said spring. a
When the tray is applied to thevertically disposed automobile door or other'vertical support, two of the legs will become disposed againstone side of the door and the clamping head caused to engage the other side of the door. be disposed horizontally and will be locked The tray will therefore in its attachment to the door by-partially i rotating the operating rod 11 so that the 7 pin 15 carried thereby will engage in one of the notches 10. When the operating rod is thus turned, it will have a limited rotary movement in the tubular shank 12 of the.- clamping head, said shank having a slot 12 to permit movement of the removable pin or set screw 18. In order to. prevent turning movement of the clamping head, thelatter may be provided with a flange or foot 12 to slide against the bottom of the tray.
Should it become desirable to remove the clamping devices for'cleaning or for other reason, this may be accomplished by first removing the screw or pins 13 and, 15 and the parts may be easily and quickly reassembled. t V
, Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-' ters-Patent, is:
1. The combination with the body of a tray, of a sleeve bracket secured on the un derside thereof and provided with a slotted extension having'notches in one wallofthe slot,.an operating rod passing through said. sleeve and its extension and movable longi-' tu dinally and rotatably with relation thereto, a clamping head on one end of said operatmg rod, a pin carried by said rod and adapted to engage one or another of said notches to lock the clamping head in adjusted position and depending members on said tray beyond respective sides 01 the clamping head.
2. The combination with a tray, of depending members spaced apart near an edge thereof, of a bracket sleeve secured to the bottom of the tray and provided With a slotted extension having notches in one Wall of the slot, an operating rod passing through said sleeve and its extension and movable longitudinally and rotatably relative thereto, a'clamping head With which said rod is rotatively connected a spring surrounding the sleeve extension and hearing at one end In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification.
