IMPROVEMENT IN SODA-WATER FOUNTAINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,551 dated November 30, 1875; application filed November 2, 1874i v To. all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHARLES GREINER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Soda-Water Fountains, of which the following' is a specification:
-This invention relates to oertainimprovements in that class of soda-water fountains construct-ed with removable heads, which may be detached from the body or main vessel of the same for the purpose of cleanslnggl or repairs.
Usuallyr such fountains have been formed of a cylindrical vessel, with detachable heads secured thereon by screw-threads. Such vessels, in order to be made cheaply enough'to meetv the demands of the trade, have to be constructed of iron or steel, and in order to provide for the necessary screw-threads at the ends, have to be thicker at those portions than is necessary to bear the strain to which the vessels are subjected. Besides, as such vessels have to be cleansed nearly every day, the screw-threads on the ends of the body are subjected to unequal wear, and after awhile fail to form a perfectly tight joint, rendering the whole apparatus worthless.
My invention is designed to'obviate these defects, and lit consists in securing,` to the cylindrical portion or main body of the fountain at each end a metallic ring or collar, by brazing or otherwise, which may be removed and renewed at pleasure when worn, said ring having on its periphery the threads for holding the heads, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a seetional view of my invention 5 Fig. 2, a detachedsectional view of one side of the same, showing the attachment at the bottom; Fig. 3, an elevation of my improved apparatus; Fig. 4, an elevation of the detachable ring provided with screw-threads; and Fig. 5, a sectional view of the same.
The letter A represents the ring attached to the upper end of the cylindrical portion or body D of the fountain. It is secured by means of brazing, soldering, or otherwise, so as'to be removable when required, and has cut on its outside a male screw-thread, a, to engage in and hold the female screw-thread of the head or top E. B represents the bottom ofthe fountain, secured to the main portion or body D upon a ring, C, which is similar to and attached to the body D in the same manner as the ring A. The fountain may be lined in the usual manner with a coating, or porcelain, or other material, F, and is provided with the usual attachments for drawing off the soda-water.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
The combination of the screw-ring G with the head and body of a soda-fountain, said screw -ring being interposed between the head and body of the fountain, substantially as herein shown and described, for the purpose specified.
