Application filed April 25,
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide an improved grate for furnaces and boilers which effectively supports the grates for rocking movement and also for tilting adjustment so that the grate -may be raked or cleared.
Second, to provide a grate structure in which the grate bars may be quickly and easily placed in position or removed as occasion' may require.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appear from the description to follow. The invention is defined in the claims. 1
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a hot air furnace embodying the features of my invention,.the hot air casing being indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. 2, is a fragmentary horizontal section on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view partially in vertical section on a line corresponding to line 33 of Figs. 2 and 4:.
Fig. 4 is a detail view partially insection on line 44 of Figs. 2 and 3.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents the body of a hot air furnace and 2 the casing thereof. The ashpit 3 is provided with sup porting bearings. 4-.for the rear ends ofthe grate bars 5 which are mounted in these bearings for rocking and longitudinaltilting movement. The front ends of the grate bars are rockingly mounted on the supporting bar 6 which has grooved annular bearings 7 for the front journals, 8 of the grate bars.

The shaker lever 22 ispivoted at 23 onthe outside of the casing 2 and is connected by the link 2r to one of the arms 20 of the grate bars so that they are simultaneously shaken or rocked in their bearings. -The rate bars are disposed at-an angle to the race 25 of the furnace'and .the face of the casing is provided with a recess 26 in which the shaker lever is mounted, thus providing for a direct connection for the shaker lever. to the grate bars.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of a plurality of grate bars mounted at their rear ends for longitudinal tilting movement, pivoted hangers adjacent the front ends of said bars, a grate bar sup-- port provided. with a plurality of annularly grooved bearing members for the front ends of said grate bars and having arms pivotally mounted on said hangers, and vertical guides for the ends of said grate bar supsaid grate bar support, said grate bar sup port having a 'lltl-IlClPlBCB at one end where by it may be rotated and thereby raised and lowered in said guides, a link pivotally connected to said arms, and a shaker-lever operatively connected to one of said grate bar arms.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of a plurality of grate bars mounted at their rear ends for longitudinal tilting movement, pivoted hangers adjacent the front ends of said bars, a support for the front ends of said grate bars and having arms pivotally mounted on said hangers, and vertical. guides for the ends of said grate bar support, said grate bar support having a handpiece at one end whereby it may be rotated and thereby raisedandlowered in said guides.
5. Ina structure of the class described, the combination of grate bars mounted at their rear ends for rocking and for longitudinal tilting movement, pivoted hangers adjacent the front ends of said bars, a supmeans for rocking said grate bars.

In a structure of the class described, the combination of grate bars mounted at their rear ends for longltudmal tilting movement, pivoted hangers adjacent the front ends of said bars, and a support on which the front ends of said bars are mounted having arms pivotally connected to said hangers, said support being provided with guides whereby the supportis raised and loweredin its guides by a rotative' movement of the support.
' 7. In a structureof the class described, the combination of grate bars mounted for longitudinal tilting movement, pivoted hangers adjacent the front ends of said grate bars, a support for the front ends of said grate bars having arms pivotally mounted on said hangers, and guides for said support.
8. In a structure of the class described, the
combination of grate bars mounted for longitudinal tilting movement, pivoted angled hangers, a supportfor the front ends of said grate bars having arms pivotally mounted on said hangers, the angles of said hangers being adapted to receive said support when it is inerected position, thereby permitting the support to swing past the plane passing through the hanger pivots and the pivots connecting sald arms to said hangers and providing a locking toggle, and guides for said support. 7

In a structure of the class described, the combination of grate bars mounted for longitudinal tilting movement, pivoted angled hangers, and a support for the front ends of said grate bars having arms pivotally mounted on said hangers, the angles of 'said hangers being adapted to receive said support when it is in erected position, thereby permitting the support to swing past the plane passing through the hanger pivots and the pivots connecting said arms to said hangers and provlding a locking toggle.
