BRUSH.
Application filed September 2, 1927. Serial No. 217,039.`
My invention relates to improvements in brushes, and has for its obj ect the provision of a brush of a construction particularly adapted for the cleaning of receptacles such as cans and similar vessels.
Another object of my invention is to prou vide a brush that will be particularly adapted to be manufactured ona quantity scaleI and at the same time to be of a construction adapted to maintain the bristles in .their sockets vithout the possibility of their being pulled loose therefrom. v
Other objects and advantages of the method and construction herein employed will appear more fully in the hereinafter specifice-v tion kwhen taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a cross section of the body of my brush, parts being broken away.
Figure 2 is a plan vie-w thereof, partly being broken away. y n Referring more-particularly to the drawings, 10 is a disk having an interior recess 11 into which the bristles 12 are adapted to enter through the apertures 13,-the bristles being secured in position by vulcanized rubber 14 which fills up the interior of the recess l11. A handle lhavinga flange 15 is provided with an integral threaded portion or plug 16 which is .screwed to the base member l() after seing threaded into the socket 17 of a lid 17 which serves to cover the bristle securing vulcanized rubber 14; in the 1.1, the lid beingsuitably secured to theY rubber bv bolts accommodated in sockets threaded therein. The flange 15" of the. handle l5, as shown in TEig. 1, seats in a shallow recess 1S) in the upper surface of the lid 17.
In the construction of my device the disks 10 after `icing recessed and perforated, which can be performed at practically one operation, are then partially completed by the insei-tion of the bristles 12 after which the recess is filled up with molten vulcanized rubber. Holes afiethen bored in the rubber and threads provided for the reception of the screw bolts 18. The lid l17 is next applied and retained securely to the base member 10 bv the bolts 18. The threaded end or plug 16 is now inserted into the socket 17 and threaded therethrough into the socket in the base until the flange 15 engages tightly the surface of the upper recess portion of the lid.
The above type of brush has found extensive application in dairies but its field of apy plication is quite wide since it affords a ready means of scrubbing and cleaning many of the utensils used for domestic purposes. i While I .have shown and described a preferred construction and arrangement of the various parte, it will be understood that my invention is susceptible of many modifications Without departing from the essential feature or sacrificing any vof the advantages thereof; hence, I do not desire to limitmy` self to the precise details as set forth but'wish to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims. f
that I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
f 1. A brush comprising a body, a cap and a handle having a flange, means 1n said body t0 receive said handle, said cap adapted to promaterial within said recess, said bristle securing material being adapted to 4bind the 'bristles in position, and means in the brush body to receive the thr iaded the flange of said. handle.
3. A brush comprising a base memberv re- 4d to provide a container for cement, ag, ,l ity of bristle accommodating apertures in said base communicating with said container, a central orifice through said base member threaded to accommodate aA plug' integral with a handle, i and fitting over said base in a manner to provide a cover for the cement therein, said'lid having a shallow` recessed upper surface to provide a seat for a flange on said handle and a threaded orifice in `said lid whereby said portion and seat handleinay be screwed through the lid and-- into the base to hold the cooperating parts of the brush in secure operative contact, suba lid registering with
