This invention relates to improved, simplified ladies and mens hats, and one ofthe objects of this invention is to provide a new and novel article of. this character with holes for ventilation, which is more conducive. to health requirements.- v f A further object is to provide an article of wearing apparel which-may be easily manufactured although of decorative qualities.

A further object is to provide an article of wearing apparel which may be easily packed away or carried in the coat'pocket.

A further objectis to provide an article of wearing apparel which may be easily adjusted to suit the head of the wearer, as regards size.

Fig. 8 is a horizontal sectional view, taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. Referring to the drawings in detail, this article of wearing apparel is made of felt or any suitable material as used for this purpose. In Fig. 1, of the drawing, I have shown a hat of a design suitable for men and boys, depending upon the size thereof, the most suitablematerial is felt of the variety as used in'mens felt hats. The article is not necessarily limited to the design shown in said Fig. 1, but may be of any suitable perforated or stencil design. The brim or rim 9 is turned outwards and upwards, the size of he said article of wearing apparel being de termined somewhat by the adjusting means l0 hereinafter described.

In Fig. 2 I have shown a similar article of wearing apparel to that shown in said Fig. 1, but it is of a different design and applied to wearer 5. This article of wearing apparel may be of all sizes as regularly required for men and boys. The adjusting means 10 consists of a pair of arms 20 pivoted to each other at thelr top ends, and formed with slightly bent-in bottom ends;- v The materials of the hats at their lower edges are formed with inverted V-shaped cutouts 21. The arms are attached to the edges of the cutouts by means of glue or stitches, so that the points of pivot of the arms are disposed in the apexes'of the V cutouts. Elastic straps. 22 are attached at i I their ends to opposite sides of the cutouts 21 and act to normally close these openings. Wedge shapedmembers 28] are engaged between the arms20 and normally hold the V-cutouts open. The hat may adjusted to at smaller size by-manually removing the wedges 23, so that the elastlcs close the cutouts. The members 28 and arms 20 engage each other by means-of tongue and groove constructions 24-.

While I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of'my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changesand modifications coming within the scope of the invention'as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

1. A hat, having inverted V-shaped cut-outs at its lower edge, pairs of arms pivotedto each otherat their upper ends, and attached on the edges'of the cut-outs, with the points of pivot disposed inthe apexes of the cut-outs, a means for normally closing these openings, and

wedge shaped membersengaged between the arms and arranged fornormally holding the cut-outs open.

2. In a hat ha-Vinginverted V-shaped outother at their upper ends, and being attached to the edges of the cutouts, with the point of pivot dlsposed in the apex of the cutout, elastic strips attached at their ends to the mate rial of the hat on the opposite sides of the cut outs, acting to normally close these openings,

3.
