a side elevation, Fig. 2 a vertical section, and
Fig. 3 a front view of the top portion of a hame provided with my improvements. Fig. 4 is a cross-section in line :0 m, Fig. 2.
Like letters of reference designate like parts in each of the figures.
A represents the wooden portion of the hame, made in the usual form; and B, the metalIicback-strap. c is one of the rings or loops, to which the upper hamestrap is attached. It is connected to the inner end of a bolt, D, provided at its outer end with a screw-thread, which engages with a screw-nut, E. The bolt D is inserted in one of a series of holes, f, drilled horizontally through the top of the hame at suitable distances apart.
The nut E is provided with two ears, 0 e, bent over the sides of the hame, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 4, so as to prevent the nut from turning. Upon placing the nut against the outer side of the hame, coincident with one of the holes f, and inserting the bolt D into the respective hole, so that its thread engages with that of the nut, and taking hold of the ring 0, the bolt D is readily screwed home and ,secured to the hame, as the ears e prevent the nut from turning with the bolt. The nut E may be of any desired ornamental form, and the bolt-D may project through the same or not, as may be desired. As the top of the hame is tapering the holes f are not all of the same length, to which the length of the bolt is readily adjusted by means of the screw nut and thread, the ears 6 preventing the nut E from workingloose by the jars to which the hame is subjected.
What I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the hame provided With the hole f, of the ring 0, screw-bolt D, and'nut E, having ears c c bent over the sides of the hame, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
