IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN ROLLERS AND BRACKETS..

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WARREN H. TAYLOR and THOMAS DONAHUE, of Stamford, in the county of Fail-field and State of Connecticut, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, which improvementsare fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
Our invention relates to improvements in curtain fixtures or brackets adapted to receive, support, and control the movement of curtainrollers, the nature of which will be fully described by reference to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
Figure 1 represents a front view of part of a window-casing with a curtain, roller, and fixtures appliedthereto. Fig. 2 is a side view of a right-hand, and Fig. 3 a similar view of a left hand, fixture or bracket. Fig. 4 shows'detail views of parts of a bracket or fixture; and Fig. 5' an end view of a curtain-roller and parts connected therewith.
In each of the views similar letters of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts wherever they occur.

By forming the extensions 1) of brackets or fixtures b and c with screw-holes b and spurs c e, and the base-plates d with elongated slots d and spurs c e. the spurs e e and e 0 being formed at the extremities of the outer faces of the adjacent ends of the extensions 6 and base-plates d, and at right angles to each other, it will be readily seen that our improved brackets or fixtures may be readily applied either to the outer or inner facings of window-cash] gs and in either instance the extensions b will be supported at right angles to and in position for the support of the axles a a of a blindroller, a It will also be seen that in either case one pair of spurs will be inserted in the facing of the windoweasin'g, while the other pair projects over the surface of the sameto prevent the tilting of the bracket or fixture.
When applying our improved brackets or fixtures to the outer facing of window-casings the spurs e e are inserted into the surface, and screws applied through the slots (1, there by securing the brackets firmly in position, as shown by Fig. 1. When it is desired to affix such brackets or fixtures to the inner facing of the window-casing the spurs e e are inserted, and screws applied through the holes b In applying a roller, a, provided with a curtain, a, to our improved fixtures or brackets the curtain should be first wound tightly onto the roller to, leaving the cord a unwound from the pulley a. The axle a is then inserted into the angular slot 1) of the bracket 0, and the opposite axle a dropped into the vertical slot 1) of the bracket b. The cord (1 should then be placed through the loop 0, as shown in Fig. 1. This having been done, the curtain may readily be drawn down by applying slight pressure to the end of the cord a so as to draw the teeth of the flange a of the pulley u away from the teeth 0 of'the semicircular rim 0 When the blind has been drawn down sufficiently the tension of the cord a is removed,
and the weight of the curtain a will then draw the axle a? of the roller 0. forward, thereby bringing the teeth of the flange a of the pulley a into contact with the teeth 0 of the rim 0, thereby firmly holding the blind a in position until tension is again applied to the cord a In pulling down the curtain a it will be readily seen that the cord 0f is wound onto the pulley a and, vice versa, when the cord of is unwound 011' the pulley a the blind a will be drawn up.
Having thus described our invention, we would have it understood that we do not claim, broadly, the application of spurs to aid in securing curtain fixtures or brackets in position. Nor do we claim, broadly, a blind-roller provided with a ratchet-wheel or surface formed on or affixed to its end, and engaging with a stop or ratchet, the blind being raised and lowwith a slot, (1, and having spurs or projections e e e eformed at the extremity of the adjacent ends of the external faces of the'extension b and plate d, and at right angles to each other, the whole being constructed as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with a curtain fixture or bracket constructed with an extension, 1), slot b screw-hole b loop 0 base-plate d, slot d, and spurs or projections e e e e, of the semicircular rim c provided with ratchet-teeth 0 the whole being constructed as and for the purposes specified.
