CORSELET.

Application filed January 16, 1928.

This invention relates to a new and useful device in the nature of a 'corselet such as worn by women in place of the usual corsets, for the purpose of maintaining the figure of the wearer and at the same time permit of free movement.

The object of the invention to provide a corselet embodying a meansof easily and readily applying the said corselet to the wearer, in a manner which will tend-to stretch the corselet so as to secure proper application conforming to the wearer.

Anotherobject of the invention is to provide a means of easily and readily applying the said corselet in a manner which will render it priwtically impossible for the corselet to become partially or totaily unapplied or disengaged, due to the movement of the wearer or to a tight fitting corselet.

As here embodied my improved corselet comprises a front and rear body member 10 and 11, preferably of rectangular shape, having stitched, sewn or otherwise secured thereto, at the upper portions thereof, upper side members 12 and 18. Elastic members 14, 15, 16 and 17, preferably formed flared,

1. e., having their lower edges somewhat wider than their upper edges, and secured to the front and rear members, below the upper side members 12 and 13, and are secured to the lower side members 18 and 19. The lower side members 18 and 19 are secured to the lower edges of the said upper side members 12 and 13, respectively.

corselet so as to cover such stitching or sewing as above stated and as is required to secure the various members of my improved device together. It is understood that the above described construction is such as will provide a corselet embodying any desired certain figure lines, such as may be in vogue from line to line i. e., I do not necessarily limit my invention to a non-form corselet, such as would be desirable to young women, or children.

The said tape 2% is sewn to the reinforcing strip and whichare secured to the side of the above mentioned elastic member 19. It is understood that an opening extending from the lower edge of the corselet to within proximity to the top edge thereof exists, which is closed by the slide 26, which engages and locks the said separable fastener members when the slide 26 is pulled downwardly, and which unlocks the separable fastener members when the slide is pulled upwardly. It is understood that the tape 24 is secured to the inner side of the front member 10, and at the edge thereof adjacenttothe said elastic member 19. v

The above described construction is such as will permit the wearer of my improved device'to draw or pull the slide downwardly, which requires a natural pulling motion and does not interfere with or materially change the body lines, or form of the wearer. The latter mentioned downward movement, or pull causing a natural straightening out effect which will substantially reduce the diametrical form of the wearer, thus allowing the body to fit into my improved corselet, which will readily apply itself to the wearer. Nhile this downward movement contracts the body, an upward movement would expand it, therefore if the corselet would be closed during an upward movement it would be more diflicult to squeeze the body into a predetermined small space.

In the construction my improved de vice, I employ a single enclosing member, 30, secured to and extended from the edge of the above mentioned front member, as a means of covering or enclosing the separable fastener device. The said si enclosing member is practically seli 31. ing and has no companion member to foul or to interfere with the fastening device and furtherenders the said device easily and readily operable as same is not in the Way during such operation.

In Figs. 5 and 6, have shown the eyelet 27 provided With an extended element 31 formed or bent in front of the aperture 7. The extremity of. the extended element 31 is somewhat depressed, at its central portion as at 32,- as a means of providing a limited space or clearance between the said extremity and the body portion of the said eyelet, so as to securely hold the hook in engagement therewith. v

In Figs. 7 and 8, l: have shown the hook 27 secured to the rivers 33 end S and er;- tended therefrom. The rivets 33 and 3% have formed therein notches 35 and 38, respectively. The said hook is of spring steel eonstructiony so as to normally urge the notches35 and 36 in engagement with and any desired opposite ones oi the serrations 37, formed in the plate member 39, adjacent to the openings -19 and 41 formed. in the plate member 39. The central portion of the slate member having its lower extremity formed. or bent hook shaped. as at d3. as a means of preventing the said hook 27 from being; separated from the plate member.
