BRACELET-EXTENSION DEVICE.
Application filed s in 19, ms. Serial no. 271,174.
This invention relates to an extension device of the type more particularly adapted to be used in connection with a watch bracelet; and has for itsobject to provide a construction which may be readily manipulated by one hand while in position; on the wrist of the wearer.
A -further object of the invention is the provision of a housing with foldable sections retained therein by a cover which is movable to permit unfolding of the sections therefrom.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device con nected intermediate the ends of a watch bracelet.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the extension in partially opened position.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the body section.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the cover therefor.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the one plate section.
Figure 6 is a perspective View of the other plate section.
Figure 7 is a sectional side view of the sections in extended position.
Figure 8 is a sectional view of the sections in partially closed position.
Figure 9 is a sectional view showing the sections in folded position.
"Wearers of wrist watches have only one hand available for manipulation of the wrist watch or any of the parts of its bracelet tor holding or releasing the same, and in order to provide a construction which may be easily manipulated and yet afford sutficient additional length to permit the bracelet and the watch attached thereto to be passed over the hand from the wrist oi the wearer without disconnecting any of its parts, I have provided a pair of channelshaped sections hingedly connected together one forming the body to retain a plurality of plate sections therein and the other channel section acting as a cover to hold the plate sections in folded position, which cover is retained in its closed position by frictional engagement between its side walls and the side walls of the channel section to which it is hinged; and the following is a detailed. description of the present embodiment of this invention illustrating one construction by which these advantageous r suits may be accomplished With reference to the drawing 10 designates the braceletiormed of a plurality of extendible units with attaching hooks 11 at either end thereof for securing the same to the bails of a wrist watch and intermediate the ends of this bracelet there is provided an extension device generally designated 12 which consists of a channel shaped body section 13 having side walls 14 and 15 to which is hingedly connected an intermediate plate section 16 by means of a tongue 17 extending thru an opening 18 and rolled as clearly illustrated in Figures 2, 7, 8 and 9. An end plate section 19 is hingedly connected to the intermediate section 16 by means of a tongue 20 extending thru a slot 21 and rolled about a cross bar 22, as clearly illustrated in Figures 7 to 9 inclusive, by which construction the plates 16 and 19 are hingedly con nected together and hinged to the body sec tion 13 to be folded thereinto as in the manner illustrated in Figures 2 and 8 to assume the position illustrated in Figure 9 or these sections may be unfolded to assume the en tended position illustrated in Figure 7 to increase the effective length of the bracelet.
A. cover section 23 is hingedto the body section 13 by means of a rivet pin 24 which extends thru suitable openings in each of these sections and also serves as a. means of connecting the part 25 of the bracelet thereto.
The side walls 26 and 27 of the cover section trictionally engage the side walls 1% and 15 of the body section to hold the cover in closed position, there being suflicient raising the cover to permit the unfolding icalchanges to which the device is suscepti-.
of the plate section when it is desired to extend the length of the bracelet.
A slot is'formed in the end plate section 19 tov which the opposite side 31 of the bracelet'lO is secured. This section may be suitably stiffened "by longitudinally extending ribs 32 if desired.
It will be of course understood that the top Wall of the cover may be suitably ornamented to'conform to the general appear- 'ance of the ornamentation of any of the links. I i
The foregoing description is directed solely'towards the constructionm llustrated, but
I desire it to be understood thatl reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanble, the invention being defined and limited only by the termsof the appended claims.
I claim 2- 1.. A bracelet extension devicegcornprising a pair of members hingedly'connected at one of their ends. and shaped to form a hollowbody when closed and relatively movable to openpsaid body, a section hinged to one of said members at its other endwto be 7 housed and held in said hollow body whereby it is swingable therefrom when open to extend the-effective length of a bracelet attached to said section-and to one of said members. i
2. A bracelet extension device comprising a housing having a body sectionand a cover therefor hinged at one of its ends," a sectionhinged to said body at its other end and V swingable therein to and therefrom,-said section beingheld in said body bythe cover in closed positiomand means for holding sald cover closed. 7 V
3. 'A'bra'celet extension devicecomprising a housing having a body section and a cover therefor hinged-at one of its. ends, a plurality of .foldable sections in said 'houslng hinged to said body at its other 'end,-said sections being held in folded position in said housing by said cover. A bracelet extensiondevice comprising achannel shaped body section, a plurality of sections hinged together and hinged to said body to be foldablebetween the channel Walls thereof and a cover section tor closing said body section and retaining the sections folded therein, said sections being unfoldable upon the openingot said cover to extend the effective length. of a bracelet attached to said body and foldable sections.
5. In a bracelet, an extension device comprising a channel section, a pair of plate sections hingeditogether and hinged to said channel section and foldable thereinto, a cover section, means for hinging said cover section-to saidchannel section together and at the same time hinging the extensionto a bracelet link, and means for securing said cover and channel sections together for preventing. the unfolding of. said plate sections from housed position. i H
6; A bracelet extension device comprising a. body channel sect-ionhaving side walls, an
end plate section having means at one end to attach it'to a bracelet, an intermediate plate s'ection,:hinge connecting. means between said intermediate section and said channel andend sectlons consisting respectively of an opening in one SBCtlOIl, and an integral tongue on the other section extend ing therethru whereby said plate sections may betolded into said channel section or unfolded therefrom, and a channel shaped cover hinged to said channel-shaped section to close thereoverand house and retain said plate sections in folded position, the side walls of said channel sections and channel cover. frictionally engaging to hold said cover closed.
