BUTGHERS sAWs. No. 120,181. A .Patented Nov. 23, 1875.
@QQ ff l @wmmw UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WILLIAM MILLSPAUGH, OF MIDDLETOWN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTCHERS SAWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,181, dated November 23, 1875; application filed October 1, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MILLsPAUGH, of Middletown, in the county ot' Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in ButchersSaws; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art t0 which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being hadpto the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. A
My invention relates particularly to that class of saws that are used by butchers; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the device for holding and straining the saw-blade, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. Y
t In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a side view of a butchers saw embodying myinven tion. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the strainl ing attachment. 1
in the same manner, fastened in one end of a loop, D, which is made to pass over the rear end ot' the frame, and has a set-screw, Gr, passed through its rear end, as shown. This set-screw. or thumb-screw enters a notchab, in the frame, as shown in Fig. l, preventing the loop from slipping either up or down. The
saw-blade is strained to the desired tension l by turning the thumb-screw Gr, and it can be easily adjusted, as required.
In the butcherssaws now generallyl in use the blade has a bolt riveted to it at one end, Y
which bolt passes through an eye in the end of the frame, and a nut screwed on the endot' the bolt fastens and strains the saw 5 but the bolt in that case also acts as a swivel, making the blade liable to turn, and, of course, will easily break. By my invention this is obviated, as the saw can under no circumstances turn to either side, while at the same time the joint between the blade and loop allows of the blade adjusting itself properly.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the saw-frame A and blade O, of the loop D, pivoted to the blade, and the thumb-screw Gr, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoingv as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. WM. MILLSPAUGH. Witnesses:
