UNITED STATES PATENT orrlca.
S JUIIIEN BUFFER-N, F SLOLTSIBUBG, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOB T0 BAMAIPO FINISHING GORPQRATION, OF SLOATSIBUBG, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
No Drawing.
This invention relates to a process of decorating fabric and the product thereof, and the principal object is the new method or process or art of decorating fabrics whereby a new form of decorated fabric is produced having part of the design or decoration discharge printed and another part of the design printed in metalliccolors at the same time Heretofore, commercially speaking, it
0 has not been possible to decorate or ornament fabric in one operation ,with part of the design discharge printed on a colored background and another part of the desi n printed in metallic colors at the same time. The
decorative arts have always demanded multi-.
colored designs on colored grounds illuminated with gold or silver and heretofore such styles have been produced by weaving. While discharge printing has been used for a long period of time'in decorating fabrics, printing part of the design in metal colors on the same goods has not been practiced be-.
cause the disadvantages in commercial roduction have been so great that this combination has not been practicable. The question of alignment, uniformity and arrangement of designs and complication of machinery, and necessity of using additional machines are all factors which have cooperated to the discouragement of practice of this character. It would have required two operationswith the' attendant troubles, difliculties and disadvantages and inability to produce a desi or ornamentation uniform and proper y placed, so as to be commercial.
In my new process the discharge printing and the printing with metallic colors are carried on at one and the same time and in one apparatus with'the resultant advantages of a 40 economy in operation, complete and accurate registration and alignment and positioning of designs and uniformity of appearance of the resulting product The process is practiced on the standard form of machine and involves the discharge printing of a part of the desi decoration or-ornamentationon the fabnc simultaneously with the prin in metal colors of another on the same goods.

This process may be used for treating fabrics or cloths of cotton, silk, mixed or artificial materials. These multi-colored discharges can be made from basic, chrome, pigment and vat colors.
In discharge printing the fabric is dyed g in the form of a suitably colored background. In printing the discharge color the colored background is simultaneouslydischarged and the design is printed on the fabric. In this new process in addition to these 0 erations, the metal color ornamentation or ecoration is applied at one and the same time to the same fabric. It is understood that in referring to metal colors I refer to gold,- silver, copper, bronze and the like.
The practice of this process results in a very e ective and inex ensive method of producing a multi-colore d discharge printed fabric with a metallic colored design 1n combination therewith. This is a very and remarkable product in this art.
What I claim is 1. The process of decoratin fabi ics which Y includes the printing of disc arge colors on the fabric simultaneously with the of metallic colors on the fabric.
2. Therocess of decorating fabrics which includes t e printing of discharge colorson a colored background simultaneously with the rinting of metallic colors thereon so as to 80 orm a combination discharge printed and metallic colored'designor ornamentation on g the fabric.
3. In the art of decorating fabrics the step which includes the simultaneous prmting of 85' the design or ornamentation by discharge colors and also metallic colors.
4. In the art of decorating fabrics, the step whichincludes the printing of part of the design or ornamentation by discha-r simultaneously with the printing 0 another 'part of the design or ornamentation in metal colors. v In testimony that Iol'aim the foregoing, I
