Description

G. ROBERTS.
. WINDOW-SCAFFOLD. Noi170,115. V Patented Nov. 16,1875.
\N'TNEE E5. all I Ink/EN ER.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE ROBERTS, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA.
lM PROVEMENT IN WlNDOW-SCAFFOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 170,1 l5, datedNovember 16, 1875; application filed July 2, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE ROBERTS, of Wheeling, in the county of Ohio and State of West Virginia, have invented an Improvement in Scaffold-Supports, of which the following is a specification:
My improved scaffold-support consists of a pair of inverted A-shaped frames, with vertically-adjustable cross-bars to support a platform at any height, and expanded by a screw bar and nut, so as to hold them firmly against the faces of a window-fran1e or other opening.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of one of the supportingframes. Fig. 2 is an elevation of one of the expanding bars. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the entire device applied to a window.
Each of the side frames consists of three frames, connected in triangular form by means of bolts B B B, and provided with any necessary number of apertures, O G O O O, which receive the connecting-bolts B B, and permit the vertical adjustment of the bar A, or the horizontal expansion of the frames, as may be necessary. D represents an expans'ion screw-bar, provided with a nut, G, of any necessary length, and employed to press the two frames apart against the faces of a window-frame, H, or other opening. E represents a plank or platform, resting on the horizontal bars of the frame. Studs or pins F applied near the inner extremities of the horizontal bars A, and engaging within or behind the inner corners of the frame or opening H, prevent the-possibility of the escape of the frames, while they are held firmly against the faces of the opening by the expansion-bar D. The heels or lower angles of the supporting-frames rest against the base of the window-frame.
The lateral support and bracing afiorded by pressing the frames against the faces of the window-frame or other opening, insures safety and steadiness, and enables the use of separate frames, which may be applied to openings of any size.
When not in use, the frames can be folded up by removing one bolt of each, and may readily be carried under the arm.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the two A shaped frames AA A, and the expansion screw-bar D, and nut G, as and for the purposes described.
' GEO. ROBERTS.
