rlhis invention relates to automobile card holders, and pertains more particularly to a holder for the operators license card or the registration card.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a card holder which retains the card in a concealed and at the same time readily accessible position, so that the operator may easily and quickly produce thecard for inspection by a traitic or other otlicer, and may likeivise restore same to the holder.

More specifically, the invention aims to provide a holder which is associated with the rear vision mirror and wherein the mirror itself forms a part ott the housing for the card, the card being mounted in a protecting slide that is automatically latched upon insertion and which is removable from the bottom ot' the mirror.

The invention has still further and other objects Which Will be later set forth and inanifested in the course of the `following description. i

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a plate 1 which may he a metal stamping, is provided and has `hanged ends Q and Vflanged top 2" oti'set therefrom so as to provide a housingl between `the rea-1 I face oi' the mirror M and the plate. As depicted in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the plate 1 has i. pret erably struck out lip 3 to provide a keeper for a latch 5 which latter is formed on the lower edge ot a card holding slide 6. The slide 6 preferably has a Celluloid covering 7 so as to protect the card S, and as shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings, the slide 6 has flanges 9 at its ends and a bottom flange 9 so as to hold the card on the slide and to enable same to be easily and quickly removed trom or applied to the slide trom the top thereof.

The means for holding the mirror in position on the automobile body may be of any form, and in accordance With the present invention,such means is generally indicated at 10 and is secured to a clamping or aiv member 11, which latter has clipslQ at its top that engage over the edge of the mirror M and over the top flange Z of the plate 1 thereby to hold the latter against the back ot' the mirror. A

lower clamping member 13 is employed which has similar clips 14 at its lower end thatengage the bottom edge ot the plate 1 at points outwardly beyond the flanged ends Q of the plate so as to thereby not interfere with the insertion and removal of the slide into and out ot its housing. Preferably the ends ofthe member 13 are offset at 15 and engage over the end flanges 2 of the pla-te 1 thereby to e'ectively hold the latter in position and against movement longitudinally of the mirror. From the foregoing, it will `be noted that the card is housed by and between the plate 1 vandthe rear face of the mirror M, and that the latch 5 which is of a s ring nature, engages the keeper 3 and there iy holds the slide in the housing. The slide Vrides over the keeper 3, and in order to remove the slide, it is merely necessary for the operatortoplace his hand back of the mirror and engage the latch 5, pulling down thereon so as to remove the slide. It Will thus be noted that the slide and the card are thereby held in a concealed and protected position` and still may be easily and quickly removiwl from and subsequently in serted in the housing.

In the other form of the invention depicted in Figs. 5 to 8 of the drawings, the mirror holding bracket 2() is applied directly to the back oif the plate 1. the latter corresponding to the plate 1 in Figs. 1 to 4. In this form of the invention, the plate 1 has clamping fin-` gers or clips 21 formed integral therewith, the latter corresponding to the clips 12 in Figs. 1 to 4. In this form of the invention, the member 13 is similar to the member 13, but is held in position by striking out lugs 22 from the plate l', the member being held in position by means of bolts 16 as in Figs. 1 4.

lith the exceptions above noted, the plate 1 and the member 13 are similar to the corresponding elements in Figs. 1 4, which is also true ot the slide 6 and its latch 5. Tith the form of the invention depicted in Figs. 5 to 8, it will be noted that any form of holding bracket 20 can be employed and directly attached to the back of the plate l', the holding bracket forming no part per se of the present invention.

In each form of the invention, it will be noted that the card is held concealed and protected by the mirror, and the latter forms a part of the housing for the slide, the slide being removable from and insertable in the housing from the bottom of the mirror.

As illustrated in Figs. l and 5 of the drawings, the plate 1 or l is preferably provided with apertures 30 at its ends to receive screws or similar tastenings, to enable the plate to be directly applied. to any convenient part of the auto body or to rear vision mirrors that are located exteriorly of the vehicle.

5 or 5 not only functions as such, but also as a handle for enabling the slide to be easily removed and applied.

It is further to be expressly unde 1stood that the invention can be employed to hold cards or identification cards of any desired nature or character, and in fact can be used to hold a plurality of cards in superimposed relation.

That is claimed is z# l. In an automobile card holder, a plate having flanges on certain of its sides and having an open side, said llanges being engageable with a support to form a cardreceiving housing between the plate and the support, plate holding means engageable with the top of the support, movable plate holding means engageable with the rear ol the plate and with the bottom of the support, and means independent of the plate to adjustably connect the movable plate-holding means to the plate thereby to adjustably clamp each of the plate-holding means against t-he support.

A card holder for use with the rear vision mirror of an automobile, including a plate having a flanged top and ends termed to be engaged with the rear face of a rear vision mirror to form a housing in conjunc tion therewith and having an open lower side, means to clamp the plate to a rear vision mirror, a slide having a card holding means receivable in the housing through said open a rear vision mirror so as to be concealed thereby, said member having flanged parts engageable with the rear tace of a rear vision mirror so as to space the member from such mirror to thereby provide a eard-receiving housing, by and between the mirror and member, means to releasably hold a card in the housing, means associated with the member and engageable with opposed edges of a rear vision mirror to holdthe member in position, and means independent of the member to adjustably hold said holding means in position.

An automobile card holder for use with rear vision mirrors so as to be concealed thereby including a card engaging member formed to be disposed on the rear face of a rear vision mirror so as to be concealed thereby, said member having` flanged parts engageable with the rear face of a rear vision mirror so as to space the member from such mirror to` thereby provide a card-receiving housing, means to releasably hold a card in the housing, means associated with the member and engageable with an edge of a rear vision mirror, movable means engageable with an opposed edge of such mirror and formed to engage over certain of the flanges of the member thereby to hold the latter against longitudinal movement, and means to adjustably hold said movable means in position.

In an automobile card holder, a plate formed with end flanges adapted to seatagainst a support so as to form a card-receiving housing in conjunction therewith, clips associated with the plate to engage the top edge of such support, a clamping member having offset parts to engage over and with the flanges ofthe plate so as to hold the latter againstlongitudinal movement and having clips to engage the bottom edge ot said sup port, and means to adjustably clamp the clamping member in position.
