The purpose of this invention is to provide a novel corner-piece which, when assembled with an ordinary square cornered sash, will convert the latter into a round cornered sash.

sented herein for the purpose of exempliiication, but it will of course be understood that the invention is susceptible of embodiment in many other structurally modified forms coming equally within the scope of the appended claims.

Having more detailed reference to the drawing, Fig. 1 shows one of the lower corners of an ordinary square cornered metal sash 10. The sash is provided about its inner periphery with a groove 11 which is adapted to receive a glazing strip 12 and a pane of glass 13.
The pane of glass, instead of being square cornered, is round cornered, and the glazing strip, instead of extending straight into the corner and then straight out of the same at right angles, follows the curved edge of the pane, leaving the groove 11 at about the point 14 and re-entering it again at about the point 15.
The resulting generally triangular space between the corner of the sash and the corner of the pane is occupied by a novel cornerpiece 16, and it is in the application, construction and arrangement of such cornerpiece that this invention resides.
The corner-piece 16 is a generally triangular sheet metal stamping which has two straight edges 17 and 18 and a curved edge 19. rlhe front and rear sides 20 and 21 of the corner-piece are arranged in spaced relation and are connected together along the straight edge 17 by means of a web 22. The straight edges 17 and 18 are of such width as to fit snugly within the groove 11 at the corner, being preferably narrower than the corner-piece proper, while the curved edge 19 is open between the ycorner 'of the pane of glass and the portion of the glazing ,strip embrac'ing the same.
4 rEhe groove 23 in the corner-piece may be restricted as to depth by means of a curved strip 26 which is positioned between the front and rear sides of the corner-piece against shoulders 27 and 28 produced therein by the offsetting of the sides incident to the reduction in width of the edges 17 and 1,8, the extremities of the strip 26 being reduced in width to pass between such shoulders into the bottom of the groove 11 at both sides of the corner-piece. The strip 26 also serves as a spacing member between otherwise unbraced portions of the corner-piece.`
From the foregoing, it will be appreciated that the corner-piece of the invention is capable of changing a window sash of ordinary appearance into one possessing exceptional artistic merit. Furthermore, the cornerpiece is extremely simple inconstruction, is quite inexpensive to manufacture, and is very easy to apply.
I claim:
1. The combination with a square cornered sash, of a round cornered insert for one corner of the sash, a glazing strip extending along the inner periphery of the sash to the insert and then along the curved periphery of the insert, and a round cornered pane of glass mounted in the glazing strip.
2. The combination with a square cornered sash having a glazing strip groove about the inner periphery of the same, of a corner piece for converting the sash into a round cornered one, said corner piece having two straight edges which are reduced and lit snugly within the glazing strip groove at the corner of the sash and a curved edge which is provided with a glazing strip groove to take the place of that portion of the glazing strip groove in the sash occupied by the straight edges, a
` glazing strip positioned in the grooves in both the sash and the corner piece, and a round cornered pane of glass mounted in the glazing strip. Y
3. The combination withl a square cornered sash provided with a glazing strip groove, of a generally triangular corner piece positioned in the two sections of the groove at one corner of the sash and having a curved edge provided with a glazing strip groove arranged in curved continuity with the two sections of the groove in the sash at the extremities of the corner piece, a glazing strip extending first along one section of the straight groove in the sash to the corner piece and then along the curved groove in the corner piece to the next section of the straight groove in the sash, and a round cornered pane oi glass mounted in the glazing strip.

The combination with a square cornered sash provided with a glazing strip groove, of a generally triangular' corner piece of greater width than the groove in the sash having two straight edges provided with reduced portions positioned in the two sections of the groove at one corner of the sash and having a curved edge provided with a glazing strip groove arranged in curved continuity with the two sect-ions oi" the groove in the sash at the extremities of the corner piece, a glazing strip extending irst along one section of the straight groove in the sash to the corner piece and then along the curved groove in the corner piece to the next section of the straight groove in the sash, and a round cornered pane of glass mounted in the glazing strip. 5. The combination with a square cornered sash provided with a glazing strip groove, of
a generally triangular sheet metal corner piece of greater width than the groove in the sash having two straight edges provided with reduced portions positioned inthe two sections of the groove at one corner of the sash and having a curved edge provided with inturned flanges between which a glazing strip groove is formed in curved continuity with the t-wo sections of the groove in the sash at the extremities oi" the corner piece, a glazing strip extending first along one section of the straight groove in the sash to the corner piece and then along the curved groove in the corner piece to the next section of the straight groove in the sash, and a round cornered pane of glass mounted in the glazing strip.
6. A device for converting a square cornered sash into a round cornered one, consisting of a generally triangular corner piece having two straight edges for insertion within the two sections of a glazing strip groove in the corner of a sash and having a curved edge provided with a curved glazing strip groove adapted to be arranged in curved continuity with the sections of the groove in the sash at the extremities of the corner piece to receive a glazing strip in which a round cornered pane of glass is mounted.
