JOSEPH JORDAN RIGGSBEE, OF DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA.
MANICURING DEVICE.
Application filed September rlhis invention relates to a manicuring device, one of the objects being to provide a simple and compact structure utilizing a sheet of abrasive material which can be replenished at will, simple means being employed for holding the material in proper position where cit-lier olI two faces are exposed for use.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement ot parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed it being understood that chan ges in the precise embodiment ol the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without depart-ing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings,
Figure l is a plan view of the device.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2, Figure l.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3, Figure 2.
Referring to the figures by characters oit retercnce, l designates a tubular housing of thin sheet inet-al or other suitable material substantially elliptical in cross sectional contour. Opposed faces of this housing are cut away to provide openings 2 extending close to the ends of the housing and to points near opposed edges thereof.
Itemovably mounted within the housing are strips ot abrasive material indicated at 3 formed of sandpaper, carboruudum paper `or the like. Inserted between these strips is a wedging blade or core ll tapered toward one end and having its opposed faces convexed transversely. The large end ot this core may be provided with a handle 5 which,

with the housing l, can be suitably erna` mented.
In using the device either of the exposed portions of the abrasive strips is rubbed over the finger nails, the device being held by the handle 5. Should the abrasive strip become worn it can be removed readily by with drawing the tightly wedged core 6, placing a new strip in position and reinserting the wedge.
The device can be made small enough to ybe conveniently carried in a handbag or the like.
lVhat is claimed is:
l. A manicuring device including a housing having openings in opposed faces, strips of abrasive material inl the housing and eX- posed through said openings, and a wedging coro insertable into the housing and between said strips to constitute a backing lor the strips.
2. A manicuring device including a housing having an opening in one 'tace thereof, an abrasive strip removably mounted in the housing and exposed through the opening,` and a wedging core insertable into the housing to constitute a backing for the strip and clamp the strip within the housing.
3. A manicuring device including a house ing substantiallyT elliptical in cross section and having an opening, an abrasive strip insertable in the housing and exposed through the opening, and a wedging core insertable into the housing to constitute a backing and a clamping means for the strip.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto allixed my signature.
JOSEPH JORDAN RIGGSBEE.
