H. G. GIBSON MANIGURE STICK.
APPLIOATION FILED MAR.21, 1914.
Patented Sept 29, 1914.
7 INVENTOR b9 229 676225017 Anon/15m HENRY CLAY GIBSON, OF LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS.
MANICURE-STICK.
mamas. of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 29, 1914.
. Application filed March 21, 1914. I Serial No. 826,381.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it'known that I, HENRY CLAY GIBSON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of LittleRock, in theco'unty of. Pulaski and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and usefullmprovement in Manicure-Sticks, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention is an improvement in manicure sticks, and has for its object to rovide a device of the character specified, wherein a support is provided for holding an abradin device, as for instance,a file for abradin t e fingernails in such manner that while the abrading surface is held. in a manner to be easily accessible, a guide is furnished for guidlng the nail during the abrading operation, and for'limiting the extent of the nail which may be abraded.
In the drawings :-Figure ,1 is a top plan view of the improved stick, Fig; 2 is a section on the line 2'-2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section; Q
The present embodiment of theinventioncomprises a support 1 of oran e wood or other suitable material, provide at one end preferably with a point 2, for cleaning between the nail and the ends of the finger, and the other end is beveled as shown at 3 and rounded to provide means for pushing back the skin at the base of the nail. The stick as shown, is the usual form of manicure or orange wood stick, so far as, concerns its ends. A nail file 4 is supported by the stick, the stick havin a transverse longitudinally extending 's 0t 5, intermediate its ,upper and lower faces into which the file is inserted. The stick is also reduced laterally at each side edge at the file as indicated at 6, to expose the central portion of the file. The Is is of the usual shape, being'of greatest diameter at its center and gradually decreasing in diameter .toward its ends, and the file in the present instance, is held in placeby rivets 7, the rivets being passed through the stick 1 and through the file near the ends thereof. At
the ends of the file, the side edges thereof gradually merge into the same line with the side edges of the stick as shownin Fig. 1, so.
that the stick, as a whole, is of greatest Width at its center, gradually decreasing in width toward each end. j
This manner of mounting'the file proof the stick which extends beyond the adjacent side edge-of the stick, and it will be evident thateither face of the extended portion at either side of the stick is accessible for engagement by the nail to abrade. the same. Furthermore the adjacent side edges of the stick provide for a guide at each side during the movement of the nail or the stick, to prevent the nail from slipping off the file. When the stick is used with vthe end of the finger or thumb bearing against one face of the stick and with the finger nail extending into contact with the cutting surface of the file, a uide is provided for limiting the amount 0 nail removed.
The stick preferabl is the usual orange wood stick, and the thlckncss of that portion of the stick at each face of the file may be of any desired de ee, depending upon the amount of nail t at it is desired to remove; I claim A manicure stick comprising a plate of suitable material longitudinally slotted intermediate its ends, the plane of the slot being ap roximately parallel with the side faces 0 the plate, a strip held in the slot,
vides fora portion of the file at each side the. opposite faces of the strip being abrasive, said bar being of less width intermediate its ends and radually increasing in width toward'its en, s to expose a portion of the stri at each side of the bar from near one end 0 the bar to near the other, the side.
edges of the stri atthe ends thereof being flush with the si e ed of the bar.
