UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
ARTHUR JAMES HENDERSON AND ERNEST HAMILTON CLIFTON, OF LONDON, ENG- LAND, ASSIGNORS T HARRY MONESOROSS, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
TICKET AND LABEL FQR ADVERTISING PURPOSES.
Application filed September 9, 1926, Serial No. 134,556, and in Great Britain September 12, 1925.
This invention relates to railway and like tickets which usually consist of a slip of stout pastcboard, and has for its object to provide an. improved arrangen'ient whereby such tickets may be used very effectively for advertising and similar purposes as well as the purpose for which they are primarily employed.
To this end and in accordance with the invention a railway or like ticket is made from a blank of thin pasteboard in the form of a pocket for containing a loose slip of thin pasteboard bearing advertising or like matter by folding said blank in two, securing together by means of an adhesive two margins thereof in such a way that there is sandwiched between each of said margins so as to constitute distance pieces one of two marginal flaps formed on said blank and folded over the inner surface of the corresponding margin of the blank before the latter is folded in two.
If desired, however both the ticket and the advertising or like strip may be formed simultaneously from a single. pasteboard blank substantially equal in width to the length of the ticket and in length slightly more than three times the width thereof.
The invention will be described with referonce to the accompanying drawings of which I igure 1 is an elevation of a blank for use in producing theinvention, Figures 2 and 3 are respectively an elevation and a plan of a ticket produced from the blank shown in Fi ure 1, whilst Figures 4 and 5 are similar views to Figures 1 and 3, but showing a modification.
The ticket shown in Figures 2 and 3 is produced from a single blank illustrated by Figure 1, said blank consisting of three equal portions 7, g, h each equal approximately in shape and area to an ordinary ticket.
The portions and h are formed with segmental notches y' and 7: respectively centrally of one of their corresponding long edges, whilst a slip on is cut from the portion 9 but is not severed from the adjacent portion It, said slip at being bordered on three sides by margins of the portion 9 and on the fourth by said portion k. The mar ins of the portion 9 are coat-ed with adhesive on both sides, and the three portions f g h are then folded about their lines of uncture so that the portion 9 connection between the slip m and the por tion it whereupon the ticket is ready for use.
Figures 4 and 5 illustrate a further modification, which differs from the form shown in F igures 1, 2 and 3 only in the relative positions of the portions g and h, and the manner of folding the blank. In this form of the invention the portion 9 is at one end of the blank, the portion it being in the middle, and the ticke 1 formed by folding over the portion 9 on to tile portion in and then folding over the portion 7' on to the portion g, the remainder of the formation of the ticket being as described with reference to Figures 1, 2 and 3.
The printing of the tickets and advertising slip may be effected after the pocket has been formc d, but preferably the whole of the printing is done on the blank before the ticket is made up.
A n'eferred form of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings and described in the specification and appended claims, but it is to be understood that changes may be made within the scope of the claims without departing new the spirit of the invention.
We claim l. The method of making a card and envelope therefor, which consists in forming said card and envelope sin'niltaneously from a single blank of thin material by the steps of dividing the blank into three equal parts, two end portions and an intermediate portion, cutting said card in the form of a tongue in one of the portions without severing said card from the portion adjacent thereto, then, by folding the blank when so cut, sandwiclr ing the cut portion between the remaining two portions, securing the margins of the lattor two portions to the margins of the cut portion, and finally, breaking the connection between the card and the folded blank.
2. The method of making a card and holder therefor, which consists in forming said card and holder from a single blank of thin mate rial by the steps of dividing the blank into three equal parts, two end portions and an intermediate portion, notching the outer edge of one end member and the inner edge of the other, cutting said card in the form of a tongue in one of the portions Without severing said card from the portion adjacent thereto, then, by folding the blank When so notched and cut, sandwiching the out portion between
