This invention relates to a boxer drawer for filing cards.

Objects of this invention are to provide a box or drawer which so constructed that it will rcadilyreceive filing cards, and is provided with a top formed of slidably related parts, one of which is hinged so that the box top may be elevated to a vertical position and may be shifted so that it does not project upwardly as high as it ordinarily would, and a further object is to provide means for receiving an overlapping portion of the top when it is so elevated to a vertical position to prevent the top from falling down over the box.

Further objects are to provide a card receiving box which is so constructed that 11;

An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through the box showing the top in closed position, and in dotted lines showing the top higure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that the box comprises a metal body portion 1 of rectangular contour, which has a rear finger 2 struck from its rear wall and providing an outwardly projecting clip for the reception of a portion of the top in a manner hereinafter to appear. This clip or tongue preferably has a rounded upper end as indicated at 2 in Figure 1.

The top comprisesa lower portion 3 which is hinged to the body of the box by means of the downwardly turned ears 4:, such ears being secured by rivets 5 which are not drawn up tight, but which permit free rocking motion. The portion 3 of the top is provided with an elongated slot 6 Within which a rivet 7 carried by the upper portion 8 of the top is slidably received. This rivet is provided with heads on'opposite sides so as to hold the parts 3 and 8 locked together. Preterably, the main portion 8 of the topis provided with a beaded forward edge 9 to fa cilitate opening of the box. The bottom portion 3 of the top is provided with an overhanging downturned rear end 10 which abuts the rear face of the back wall of the box when the top is in open position.

In using the device, the top is swung to vertical position, as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1, and the main portion 8 thereof is slid downwardly or telescoped upon the por tion 3, so that the rear end of the main por tion Slits within the clip 2 or" the rear tongue. This looks the top against closing motion and at the same time, lessens the extent of projection of the elevated top.

This is a very desirable condition, as it does not have such a high projecting portion for the top when open and also as it looks the top against closing. When it is desired to close the box it is a simple matter to catch the curved beaded end of the top and pull it upwardly and thereafter to close the boxin the usual manner.

It will be seen that a very simple type of card receiving box has been provided, and it is to be distinctly understood that the box is applicable both to an ordinary type of box or to a drawer type without departing from the spirit of this invention. Therefore, although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as the invention may be variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be a determined as claimed.

I claim:

1. A box for filing cards comprising a rec tangular body portion adapted to receive the cards, a top composed of a lower member and an upper member, the lower member having hinged connections adjacent its rear with the body of the box and the upper member being slidably related to the lower member.

2. A box for filing cards comprising a body portion adapted to receive the cards, a twopart top, the under portion of which is provided with downturned ears pivotally joined to the body of the box, the upper portion of the top extending the full distance from said pivotal junction to the opposite side of the box and being slidably-held to the lower portion of the top, said top being adapted to be rocked to vertical position, and the upper portion being adapted to slide downwardly when in vertical position.

3. A box for filing cards comprising a body portion adapted to receive the cards, a two-part top,the under portion of which is provided with downturned ears pivotally joined to the body of the box, the upper portion of thetop extending the full distance from said pivotaljunotion to' the opposite side of the box and being slidably held to the lower portion of the top, said top being adapted to be rocked to vertical position, and the upper portion being adapted to slide downwardly when in vertical position, and a clip carried by the rear wall of the box and adapted to receive the end of the downwardly slid upper portion when the top is in elevated position, whereby said top is locked in elevated posit-ion.

4.
