GRINDING ATTACHMENT.
Application filed March 21, 1925. Serial No. 17,293.
The present invention relates to an attachment especially designed for use in connection with meat grinding machines, and aims to provide means whereby the main shaft of a meat grinder may be employed as a support and operating means for the attachment.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character including a blade rest whereupon the knives or blades being sharpened may be properly supported. A still further object of the invention is to provide a guard to permit the plates to be properly held against the outer surface of the grinding disk for grinding and sharpening. l5 lVith the'foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement ofparts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of theinvention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure l is a sideelevational View of the device illustrating a modified form of support.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the modified form of support.
Figure 3 is a front elevational' View of the attaching member.
Figure 4 is a sectional view through the grinding disk.
A tool support as shown by Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings includes an open collar 21 adapted to be fitted over the body ortion 5 and held in position by means 0 the set screw 22.
Extending from the open collar. 21 is an arm 23 which is provided with an offset portion 24 adapted to rest adjacent to the periphery of the grinding stone which in this showing is indicated by the reference character 25. Extending upwardly from the outer end of the offset portion '24 is a flange 5 against which the blades under treatmentmay engage as they are being held into engagement with the periphery of the grinding stone.
, An opening indicated at 26 is formed in the oiiset portion 24 at a point adjacent to the flange 25 so that one of the blades of the star-like knife may be passed through the opening to the end that an adjacent blade will be held into engagement with thegrinding stone.
p I claim A blade supporting device for blade grinding machines including an open collar, an arm extending at an oblique angle with respect to the collar and forming apart of the collar, means for securing the collar to the grinding machine, an offset portion forming a part of the arm, and adapted to rest in spaced relation with the. grinding wheel forming a part of the grinding machine, said olfset portion having an opening formed adjacent to its end to receive a blade of a star-shaped cutter sup- I ported by the supporting device, and an upstanding flange formed at the end of the ofiset portion.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature.
GEORGE S. KLEIN.
