My present invention pertains to screen carrying window frames, and contemplates the provision of such a frame made entirely of metal and one that is readily adjustable in width and length, and is adapted to be shipped in disassembled shape, and to be readily assembled and set up for use and this 1 without the employment of skilled labor and without the assistance of any toolwith the exception of an ordinary screw driver.

For the sake of clearness and convenience I will first describe the body of my novelall; metal frame. COHIPI'lSGS'fOHI' corner members such as the member 1 shown in Figure 5, four interposed sections, such as the section Q'in'Figures 13, 14-, and 15, and a middle brace 3, said brace being shown incorporated in the body in Figure 4, and being shown in detail in Figures 9 and 16. ends of the enlarged portions 4 of the sections 2 at right angles to each other are shaped as shown to form a miter joint 6, and the inner portion 5 of one of the sections Z isarranged p in lapped relation tothecorresponding pop tion of the section at right angles and is connected to the latter section through the medium of stove bolts 7. It will also be hot-ed that each of the sections 2* is provided'in its portions 5 with. apertures 8 forthereception of the shank of thewire screen fasteners 9 hereinafter described in detail.
Each of the four interposed sections 2 is of a single pieceof sheet metal, and is provided with enlarged portions or heads 10,o'f triangular cross section. the ends of which are reduced as indicated by 11, and closely arranged side by side portions 12, best shown in Figure 15. It will also be noted that the side by side and closely arranged portions 12 of the sections 2 are longitudinally slotted and designated by 13 and best shown in Figure 14;. The end portions of the intermediate sections or interposed sections 2 are the before mentioned slots 13. From this it As clearly shown in Figures 4: and 14:, the
closely arranged side by side portions 12 of the interposed sections 2 are apertured as indicated by 15 for the passage of the shanks of fasteners such as 9. The middle brace 3 of the frame body is made up of two sections 16 of sheet metal, such as best shown in Figures 4, 9 and 3 It will be noted from Figure 9 in comparison with Figure 16 that each section 16 is provided with a channel portion 17 and with a fiat edge 18 outwardly beyond the channel portion and of a greater width than the said channel port-ion, It will also be noted that each section 16 is apertured at 19 and longitudinally slotted at 20 and 21, the slots 20 of the two sections 16 being for the passage of stove bolts 22 by which the sections 16 are connected to the side by side portions 12 of side sections 2,and the slots 21 in the inner end portions of the sect-ionsv 16 which. portions are designed to be arranged in lapped relation as shown in Figure t, being adapted to receive a connecting stove bolt such as designated-by 28 in Figured. The outer ends of the sections 16 are designed to abut against the heads or enlargements 10 of the side sections 2 as is brought out in Figure 4 of the drawings.
It is believed that from the foregoing, the
bodyof my novel frame will be readily comprehensible; and it will be appreciated that the said body is easy to assemble and this without the employment of skilledlabor or any tool other than an ordinary screw driver. It will be appreciated that the said frame body is susceptible of being easily manufactured, and from the standpoint of a dealer the a said body is possessed of several practical advantages. For instance, the corner members shown in Flgure 5 fits frames of all sizes, the corner members designated by 1 always remaining the same. From this itfollows that one kind of corner member 1 only need be stocked. The interposed sections 2 may be,
and preferably are sockets in assortedlength and are interchangeable for use at the side or at'the ends of the frame. It will further be appreciated that the frame body constructed as described lends itself to ready adjust- 1 mentof the screen frame as a'whole to windows of different sizes. ,The wire screen of designated by 24 and is lapped over the sections 16 of the middle brace 3, and over the inner closely arranged portions 12 of the interposedsections 2 after the manner shown in Figures 3 and 2, respectively. 7

. the said fasteners having heads to be arranged at one side of the wire screen 24, and also hav my improvement is ing side by side prongs constituting shanks which areadapted to be passed through interstices of the wire screen and through apertures of the portions of the frame body, and the said prongs being adapted to be bent with the fingers in opposite directions at the opposite sides of the body portions relative to the wire screen 24. lVhen applied and arranged as stated, the fasteners 9 will manifestly strongly hold the wire screen 2 1 to and on the frame body;
For the purpose of hiding and covering the fasteners 9 and the edges of the wire screen may be increased or diminished in length,
when the frame is adjusted to increase the frame body in width or in length.
From this it follows that For the purpose of detachably securingthe covering bars 25 on the adjacent portions of the frame bodyIv provide clips 26, the said clips 26 being bifurcated at 27 for the passage of the shank of stove bolts28 by which the clips are connected to the frame body, and the said clips also having portions 29 shaped to snugly fit and rest over the angular shaped portions of the covering bars 25. By virtue of this provision it will be understood that each of the covering bars 25 will be strongly though detachably secured in'working posltlon so as to cover the fasteners 9 and the edges of the wire screen 24 and then to the finished appearance of the frame as a TV whole as before stated.
By reference to Figurel it will be understood. that the outer ends of the side covering bars 25 are mitered to lap over the end covering bars with the result that the finished appearance of the structureis increased. It will also be noted in thls connection that'the covcring' bars 25 complementary to the middle brace 3 are mitered .to fit the angularportions of the side covering bars 25, for'the .pur- V pose indicated, I V c When deemed expedient the .body of my novel screen carrying window frame maybe provided with apertured hangers 80 through the medium of which the screen carrying frame may be connectedwith and suspended on a window frame which is to be guarded by the wire screen 24.
It will be appreciated from the foregoing that notwithstanding the all-metal character and the fire proof qualities of my novel screen carrying window frame, the said frame as a whole is, by virtue of its construction, light in and adjustably connected to the corner in weight. members.
I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart a full, clear, and exact understanding of said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as limiting myself to the precise structure disclosed, my invention being defined by my appended claims within the scope of which modifications may be made without departure from my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination, a body bar, means for connecting a wire screen to the said body bar, a bar arranged over and hiding the means for connecting a wire screen to the body bar, means forholding the second named bar to and on the body bar; the said means for holding the second named bar to and on the body bar being in. the form of clips resting over the second named bar and directly attached to the body bar atpoints alongside and outwardly beyond the second named bar.
2. In combination, a body bar, means for connecting a wire screen to the body bar, a bar arranged over and h1d1ng said means for connecting the wire screen to the body bar,
and means for holding the second named bar to and on the body bar; the said body bar having an outer enlarged hollow portion, of angular cross section, an interlapped portlon and the second named bar being of angular cross section and spaced inwardly from said hollow portion, and the said means for bold ing the second named bar to and on the body bar being in the form of angular clips direct- 1y attached to the body bar outwardly beyond and alongside the second named bar and arranged inwardly of said hollow portion and straddling the second named bar.

A body comprising corner members, each with outer hollow portions and with inner portions arranged side by side and against each other, and interposed end and side sections having outer hollow portions and inner portions side by side and against each other and further having reduced ends socketed 4. In combination, a body having apertures, fasteners'adapted to be connected to a wire screen and to extend through apertures of the body and being secured at the rear side of the body, a bar having an angular portion arranged over and. completely covering said fasteners, and clips having angular portions straddling the angular bars and also having portions connected. to the body at points alongside of and outwardly beyond said bar.
5. In combination, corner members having outer hollow portions and inner portions, the latter arranged side by side and together, interposed side and end sections having hollow outer portions and inner closely arranged portions and further having reduced end portions and longitudinal slots therein, and bolts extending through said-slots and adjustconnecting the interposed end and side sections to the corner members. 7

The combination of corner members having hollow outer portions and inner portions arranged side by side and together, interposed side and end sections having 1101-. low outer portions and also having inner portions arranged side by side and against each other and further having reduced end portions and longitudinal slots therein, and
bolts extending through said slots and adjustably connecting the'interposed end and sidesections to the corner members; the inner portions of the corner members and interposed sections being apertured to facilitate the connection of the wire screen or the like to the same.
7. In combination, a body bar having aper-, tures, means adapted to extend through said apertures to connect a wire screen or the like to the body, means adapted to be arranged over a Wire screen or the like and the said connecting means and completely hiding said connecting means and contributing to the finished appearance of the structure and means connected directly to the body bar outwardly beyond the covering means and holding said covering means on the body bar.
