STEEL-WOOL ARTICLE FOR CLEAN SING AND ABRADING PURPOSES.

Our invention relates to steel wool holders. The object of our invention is to provide a cheap steel wool holder so that the wool may be held withoutsoiling the hands while it is being used for cleansing and abrasive purposes.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of our holder; Figure 2 is a section of our holder with a pad mounted thereon; and
Figure 3 shows a side elevation of our holder using heavily compressed felt.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 is a handle, preferably of wood, having a slightly enlarged head 2, upon which is mounted one or more pads of felt 3 attached by the screw or nail 4 to the end of the handle 1. The sides of the felt pad 3 are rough and expose the fibers composing the felt pad.
In Figures 1 and 2, a coarse form of felt having strands 5 is provided, such felt being that usually used in paper machines. It pro rides a coarse surface for attaching the steel wool pad 6, which is usually cup-shaped, having walls extending up around the sides of the felt pad. ()ne or more pads may be used ac cording to the depth of the walls of the steel wool pad.
For some types of wool, we find that the finer grades of felt, as shown in Figure 3, which do not have such coarse fibers, are proferable.
It will be understood that we desire to comprehend within our invention such modifications within the scope of the claims as may be necessary to adapt it to Varying conditions and uses.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An article of the character described comprising a supporting handle, a pad of felt on the end thereof, and acup-shaped pad of steel wool engaging the said felt.
2. An article of the character described comprising a supporting handle, a pad of felt on the end of the said handle and secured thereto, the side walls of the pad being roughened, and a cup-shaped steel WOOl pad engaging the roughened fibrous side walls of the 8. An article of the character described comprising a handle, a pad of felt provided with exposed sides, and a cup-shaped steel WOOl pad engaging the sides of the said felt, the said felt being of larger diameter than the said handle adjacent the point of attachment.
4. An article of the character described comprising a handle, a felt pad secured to the handle, the said pad consisting of coarse fibrous felt exposed at the sides thereof, a cupshaped steel wool pad having the inner wide walls thereof engaging with the said coarse fibers of the felt pad.
