E. GUERIN STOPPER FOR PERFUME BOTTLES AND OTHER CONTAINERS Filed Sept. 12, 1927 QATTUHNEY Patented .lan. l, ltlZ9.

EMILE GU'EBIN, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
STOPP ER FOB PERFUME BG'ETLES AND OTHER CONTAINERS.
Application filed September 12, 1927, Serial No. 219,124, and in France September 27, 1926.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved stopper for bottles or other con tainers whatever the shape thereof, containing perfume or other liquid to be discharged guttatim, or one drop at a time. It embodies a spring plunger element that pro trudes outside and is provided with a yielding or elastic joint to ensure tightness normally and to permit drop-by-drop discharge when depressed; the container on which is fitted being then turned upside down and the outflow taking place in such a way to preclude any rislr of sudden discharge of the container being caused.
The single figure of the accompanying drawing'is a vertical sectional view of one embodimentot my said invention.
The improved stopper comprises a suitably-shaped hollow cap or hood A, made of metal or of any other desired material, and which may or may not be rigidly connected with the bottle or liquid container, indicated at B. Said cap is formed with a hole C for the discharge of the li uid and is provided at its bottom with a sleeveD havin a tapered mouth or throat E.
Within the space or chamber thus defined is positioned a plunger element, the head G of which projects through and beyond the hole C, while its tail H constitutes the valve proper and is adapted to engage into throat E, the parts G and H being connected by the stem F. The shape of valve H onforms. oi course, to that of throat E while the head G is termed with a spaced collar 1 which receives a rubber or other yielding washer J designed to close the liquid outlet C. Normally, said washer is held in clos d position by a spring K hearing at one end the top or sleeve D and at the other end against collar 1.
In this position of the plunger element the container B is in communication with the in terior ot cap'A through an annular space or E between the wall of throat E and the surface of valve H. But when pressure is exerted on end G, the container being in inverted positionwith cap A down, the liquid flows toward the cap; and, at the same time, valve H engages in throat E of the sleeve the latter permitting only a slight movement or play, so that the space is promptly closed. Release and renewed pressure will let out another drop, and so on.
Communication between container B and the device being effected through the annular space E, risks of obstruction by any solid matter present in the liquid are done away with, and my invention is applicable, therefore, to any and all containers in which the use of such a closure might prove convenient desirable or necessary.
It will be understood that modifications and changes-that may be found desirable in practice can be introduced without departing from the scope of my invention as claimed.
I claim as my invention:
1. A bottle stopper, comprising a depressible one-piece plunger element embodying a h l member, a valve member, and an interte stem integrally connecting them, saio head provided atits base with a grooved collar and with a washer seated in the groove therein; and a spring acting on said head member to normally maintain the plunger element in closed position.
2. A bottle stopper according to claim 1 in which the spring acts against the under side Of the collar to force the plunger element upward into closed position.
3. A bottle closure, comprising a hollow hood having an opening in its top; a de pending sleeve secured in the bottom of the hood and adapted to extend into the mouth of the bottle; a depressible plunger element disposed within the hood and embodying a head constantly projecting through said opening and a valve adapted to seat in the mouth of said sleeve; and a spring normally holding said element in raised position with its valve member unseated to provide communication between the interior of the hood and the bottle.
s. A bottle closure according to claim 3, in which the head member of the plunger element and the opening in the top of the hood taper conformably; and in which said head is provided at its base with a grooved collar and with a washer seated in the groove therein to form a tight oint at the opening.
A bottle closure according to claim 8, in which the sleeve is provided at its upper end with a tapered'throat, and the valve member of the plunger element is tapered to fit con-' iormably therein when in closed position.
(3. A bottle closure according to claim 3, in which the plunger element is or" one-piece construction and embodies a stem intermediate the headand valve, said stem being encircled by the spring. v v V In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
EMILE GUERIN.
