Description

UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
THOMAS HARRIS, OF FAYETTEVILLE,
NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR or ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO BEACH O. BEARD AND HUNTINGTON BEARD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-HANGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,695, dated November 9, 1575; application filed January 15, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS HARRIS, of Fayetteville, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Door-Hangers, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to door-hangers; and consists in an improved form of the wheel, cap-piece, 8m, and peculiarities of construction, whereby friction is diminished, and greater strength and durability obtained, and which renders all parts capable of being easily molded and cast, and readily fastened together, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a view from the rear of the door-hanger, showing the manner of fastening the parts together; Fig. 2, a crosssection of same; and Fig. 3, a plan of the wheel.
ais the strap by which the hanger is attached to the door; I), a circular plate cast on the end of the strap. The inner .face of this plate has a projecting rim, 7', around the edge, of sufficient width to hold the two bolts 0 c. d is a cap, having a corresponding rim, 7', around its edge, fitting that of the plate Z2, to which it is fastened by two or more bolts or rivets, c 0, passed through the rims r r. This fastening has several advantages over the single bolt usually applied in the center, as by it the plates are stayed, the cap prevented from turning, and the bolts made less liable to work loose. Upon the center of the inner face of the plate I), and also of the cap 61, is cast a V-shaped projecting ring, 6, of such circumference as to form in the center thereof a recess ofthe shape of an inverted cone. 1 is the wheel, cast with conic pivotso on its sides, to fit the recesses formed by the rings 6 6.
By this simple device a strongjourual, with very little friction, is obtained for the wheel, and since all the edges and projections are beveled the molding and casting of the parts are greatly facilitated.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved door-hanger herein described, consisting of the strap or plate a, cast with circular head I), having inside V-shaped ring or hub e, and projecting rim 1', the cap-piece d, cast with corresponding rim and V-shaped ring, the wheel I), cast with conic pivots to serve as journals, and the two connectingbolts 0 a passing through the rim, all substantially as described and shown, for the purpose set forth,
In testimony whereof I have signed my name and affixed my seal in the presence of two attesting witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, this 12th day of January, 1875 THOMAS HARRIS.
Witnesses CHAS. H. HEY, EDWARD LAASS.
