Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL H. MOORE AND EDWARD Y. MOORE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOO'R-HANGERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent N o. 177,654, dated May 23, 1876; application led April 29, 1876. i
"To all 'whom it may concern:
Be a known that we, SAMUEL E. MOORE y and EDWARD Y. MOORE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in BarnDoor Hangers; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and
to the letters of reference marked thereon,
which form a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of a barndoor hanger, combined with a non-rotating box of peculiar construction, whereby only the friction-rollers and wheel move in using the device, as will` be hereinafter more fully explained and definitely claimed.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 is a rear -view, with wheel and cap partly removed.
will project slightly through said aperture.
In the edge of the rim B is formed a groove, w, as shown. Within the rim B is formed a circular box, C, concentric therewith, and
within said box, around the inside, is placed a series of rollers, D D. rIhe rim or box C and rollers D are of `less height than the rim B. G represents a wheel placed within the rim B, and formed with an annular recess, b, in one side, which leaves a rim, a, around theperiphery, and a hub, d, in the center. The hub d is of such size as to just it within the .circle described by the frictionrollers'D D, so that all the Weight and strain will come on said hub, rollers, and the box inclosing the rollers. This box is stationary, so that the rollers and wheel are the only rotating portions of the device. In casting the hangers it will thus be seen that it is these parts only that have to be of such size as to carry the weight. The other parts may be made comparatively light.
The wheel G is held in place by a cap or plate, H, having on its inner side, around the periphery, a flange or bead, y, to tit in the groove m on the rim B, and also a flange, 1'., to tit in the opening h, leaving, however, room enough for the wheel in said opening to run upon the bar or beam that supports the door.
A central bolt, m, with nut n, secures the parts firmly together.
When this hanger is secured to the door and suspended on the bar or beam at the top, the entire weight is on the rollers D D, and, these being placed free within the box C, there is but little friction, and hence the door can be moved freely and easily in either direction.
We are aware of United States Patent No. 175,243, and do not, broadly, claim anything shown therein; but,
. Having thus fullydescribed our invention, whatwe claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The wheel G, having rim a, annular recess b, and hub d, in combination With strap A, having rim B, and circular box C, and the friction-rollers D, and with the cap piece H,
all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
'In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we aix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL H. MOORE. EDWARD Y. MOORE.
