UNITED STATES MARTIN SEGORIA, OF VALLEJO, CALIFORNIA.
PROCESS TREATING LEATHER.
No Drawing.
This invention relates to a new and useful process of treating leather, and has particular reference to the treatment of leather to thus provide the features of pliability, durability I and smoothness that do not exist in leather as ordinarily constructed.
The process consists in subjecting the leather to a mixture of White pine pitch, linseed oil and beeswax.
' In the preparation of the process, I prefer to use the ingredients in approximately the following proportions, namely, twenty-five pounds of wh lte pine pitch, two and one-half quarts linseed s1 and six pounds of beeswax. In practise, I first take pitch in bulk in the proportions specified and dissolve the same in the resence of a temperature of approximate y 82 F. I
After the pitch has been dissolved and a sticky consistency realized, I add the beeswax, which serves to render the pitch smooth and thereafter add the linseed oil ingredient to the combined pitch and beeswax. This preparation is then applied to the leather, the linseed oil entering the pores of the product functions to freeze therein and serves to harden the same.
The leather treated by the combined in- Application filed November 30, 1927. Serial No. 236,887.
gredients above specified and in the manner described, has been found to be exceedingly so durable, light, smooth and further it does not have a tendency to crack, as is experienced in ordinary leather products.
In theuse of the leather as soles for shoes after being treated by my process, I have found from experience that it outlasts ordinary leather, and even after a long period of use retains its pliability and remains smooth and non-porous. I
While I have disclosed the preferred proportions of ingredients used in the treatment of leather, it is nevertheless to be understood that the proportions may be varied without departing from the principle of the invention, or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
The process of treating leather for rendering the same smooth, durable, and pliable which consists in subjecting the leather to a mixture of twenty five pounds of white pine pitch, two and one-half quarts of linseed oil and six pounds of beeswax.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
