Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE...
CECIL A. BUMPASS, OF GENESEE, IDAHO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ARTHUR HENRY POTSCH, OF GENESEE, IDAHO.
SHOE AND LEATHER DRESSING.
No Drawing.
To all whomv it may concern Be it known that I, CECIL A. BUMPASS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Genesee, in the county of Lotah and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe and Leather Dressing; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved dressing for shoes and other leather articles as a means of preserving the material and maintaining the same in a pliable and moisture resisting condition and thereby adding to the durability thereof, and furthermore to provide a material for the purpose indicated which can be readily applied to the surface of the article for absorption thereby, and with this object in View the invention consists of a formula contemplating the following ingredients, to wit:
Tallow 10 pounds,
Neats-foot oil 5 pounds,
Beeswax 1 pound,
Coloring matter 1 pint,
Pine tar 1 pint,
Glycerin pint,
Paraffin pound.
These elements should be thoroughly mixed and boiled until a thoroughly homogeneous combination or commingling has been eflected, whereupon the mass may be permitted to cool and it is then in condition for use.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 21, 1921.
Application filed November 18, 1920. Serial No. 424,457.
It is seen that the relatively large percentage of the tallow employed in this formula and which serves as a vehicle, insures the carrying of the preservative ingredients such as the neats-foot oil, pine tar and glycerin into the pores of the leather so as to soften the same and thereby retain the leather indefinitely in a flexible and live condition.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is l. A. dressing for leather consisting of a mixture of tallow, neats-foot oil, beeswax, pine tar, glycerin, parafiin and a coloring agent.
2. A dressing for leather consisting of tallow ten pounds, neats-foot oil five pounds, beeswax one pound, pine tar one pint, glycerin one-half pint, parafiin one-half pound and a coloring agent one pint.
3. The process of forming a composition of matter for use in the treatment and preservation of shoes and leather goods consisting of thoroughly mixing tallow, neatsfoot oil, beeswax, coloring matter, pine tar, glycerin and paraflin and boiling the mixture until a thorough homogeneous combination or commingling has been effected, whereupon the mass may be permitted to cool, after which it is ready for use.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CECIL A. BUMPASS.
