This invention is a novel improvementin web feeding and cutting attachments for lob printing presses and its objects are to provide a simple attachment whereby, when desired, webs can be printed on ordinary Job sheet printing presses and l may be severed into sheets; or if Adesired can be re-wound into roll form and reprinted before severing into sheets,.if it is desired to perfect the web by repeated operations of the press.
A further obj ect is to provide means whereby the web may be divided longitudinally into a plurality of longitudinal sections by perforators or slitters before it. is severed into sheets, thus enabling a plurality of small sheets or obs to be simultaneously printed on the press. l
In the accompanyingl drawings I have illustrated the attachment as applied to a Chandler and Price job printing press, although it is applicable to other types ofgob presses; but the description of the attachment as applied tol said press will enable others to readily adapt and use the same. I refer to the claims for summaries of the novel features of construction and nove-l combination of parts for which protection is desired.

My attachment comprises a frame of any .as approximately rectangular and bf a width approximating the width of the press. This frame can be disconnectably attached to the press at one end by any suitable means, al1-- gles 2 and 'bolts 3 being shown, by which the frame may be boltedto the table T of the press.
The frame is provided with bearings 4 for the shaft 5 of a paper roll W and the web fw is led from this roll W under an idler tensioning roller 'lwhich is mounted in swingable bars (la pivoted to the frame.`
, The web then passes to and under a guide roller -7 which is mounted in the ends of bars lfL attached to the frame; said bars being of suc-h extent, that the webw can be led upward from the roller 7 to and between the platen P and bed B, the web lying close to the face of the platen, and above the platen to and over a roller 8 which is mounted in' i bearings in side pieces 9, attached toside members 9" which are hinged at 1c to the top members lb of the frame, as indicated in the drawing. The roller 8 can be adjusted vertically so as to lengthen or shorten the length of web between the roller 7 and the feed rollers hereinafter' referred to. As shown the roller 8 can be vertically adjusted by means of screws 9c which are interposed between the side members 9b and the tab-le T.
Above and co-acting with the roller 8 is a l roller 10 which is preferably journalled in vbearings 10a adjustably mounte'd'in the side pieces 9, so that the roller 10- can be adjusted toward or from the roller 8. This adjustment `being effected by screws 10". The rollers 8 and-l0 may be provided with perforatin'g or slitting devices as hereafter explained, if it is desired to divide the web into longitudinal sections before reaching the cutting devices.
From roller 8 ltheweb W is led to and between feed rollers 1l and 12, the shafts ofwhich rollers are journalled in bearings in members lf vattached to the sides of the main frame as shown. The feed rolls are operated to feed vthe paper by suitable means.. As shown a. ratchet wheel lla is keyed to they shaft of feed roll ll, at one end thereof, andan arm 4`1lb is pivoted on the shaft beside this ratchet lla'said arm carrying a plurality of pawlsll" (Fi 5) which are adapted toengage the ratc et wheel 11. The arm 11b has an adjustable pinTand-slot connection indicated at 11, with one end of a link 13, the other end of which is connected by a pin-and-slot connection, indicated at 13, with a slotted yoke 14 fixedly attached to one of the disks C. Preferably this slotted yoke 14 is connected to the crank pin c at one side of the pit-men A. By this means for each rotation of the disk C, and each operation of the press, the lever 11b is oscillated, and the parts are so adjusted that the web is fed forward between impressions and is stopped during the taking of an impression. The intermittent feed of the web is effected by the link 13 connecting the lever 11b with the yoke 14. By adjusting the connections between the link 13 and the lever 11b or the 'link 13 and the yoke 14, or both, any desired variation in the length ofthe web fed betweenimpressions can be obtained; so that only the proper length of web (according to the length of form being printed plus margins between impressions) will be fed at each operation of the press.
The roller 12 may consist of a shaft and adjustable trolley rollers 12a as shown in Figure-y 5. When such trolley rollers are used, they are preferably rotatable idly of the shaft, and may be adjusted longitudinally j thereof and confined in adjusted position between collars 12 which can be secured to shaft when adjusted by set screws 12, see` Fig. 5. The pressure of the trolleys on the roller can be adjusted by a. set screw indicated at 12S.
The feed rollers 11 and 12 direct the web outwardly past a cutting device which may be of any suitable kind, as shown. It comprises an-oscillating blade 15 and a co-acting fixed shearing blade 16. The blade 16 is mounted on a transverse member 1 of the main frame adjacent the feed rolls, and the blade 15 is shown as pivoted at one end on,
a stud 15a and its other end is connected by a rod 15b to a lever 16 (Fig. 1) which extends beyond the shaft D and beside one of the pivoting the lever 16 to the swingable lever 16b 'the knife is not affected by the arcuate swing of the lever 6, and the knife is kept in `.position to effectively shear with the blade 16 by means of a spring 15 connected to the rod 15 and to an adjacent p-art of the frame. The knife is normally held in raised position b 'means -ofja spring 16g connected to lever 1g and to-an -adjacent part of the frame. These parts are so proportioned and positioned that 'the knife is actuated once for necesa@ each operation of the press; and the knife is actuated to sever the web between impressions at a time when the'web is stopped.
The sheets severed by the knife 15 fall upon a table 17 in the frame. In case it is not desired to sever the web into sheets, the web or strips of web may be re-wound on a re-windingshaft 18 which is mounted on suit-able bearings on the frame at a point beyond the knife. When the web is to'be re-wound the knife 15 is put out of action by disconnecting the rod 15b from the knife. This can be readily done in various ways. As shown the .upper end of rod 15b has an eye which is engaged with a stud 15n on the free end of .the knife 15, and the rod 15b is detachably held in engagement with the stud by a cotter pin 15.
When it is desired to rewind the web the end of the web may be fastened to the shaft 18 or to a spool 18n thereon and this shaft 18 may be rotated by any suitable means. As shown a pulley 18a on one end of shaft 18 is driven by a loose belt 18b from a pulley 18 on.

If desired after the web printed on one side has been re-wound on the web roll 18, as indicated at Wa, the roll Wa may be removed and placed in the bearings 4 and the web again led through 1 the press and printed onthe other side (or perfected) and severed into sheets if desired which will be deposited upon table 17.
When printing tickets or the like' the roller 10 may be provided with perforated or cutting disks 10, and the roller 8 with cooperating grooved or yfemale disks 8, see Figure 3. These disks 10, 8 maybe longitudinally adjusted upon the shafts'and held in adjusted position thereon by means of collars` 10, 8, respectively; which can be held in adjusted position' by means of set screws 10i, 8.
' Any desired number of slitters or perforators 10, 8, may be used, and adjusted as desired,acc=ording to the width to be severed from the printed web. This slitting device is used when the machine is employed for printing tickets, or small circulars or pages, a plurality of which can be printed side by side on the webwat each operation of the machine.

oscillating member for actuating said feedroll; an adjustable connection between the member and oneof the crank disks whereby the web may be fed forward afterv each operation of the press; a knife for severing the web mounted on the frame, a lever pivotally mounted on the press and adapted to be oscillated by a pin on one of the crank disks, a rod connecting this lever with the knife; a spring for retracting the knife and lever; and web slitting devices on the frame.

In. combination with a bed and Vplaten job press having rotatable cranks and pitmen for oscillating the platen; a frame detachably connected t0 the press frame, a web roll support mounted on said frame, web guides for directing the web from the web roll to and between the platen of the press; s wingable members pivoted to the frame and supporting the upper web guide roller and means for adjusting the swingable members; a web feeding rollermounted on the frame, an oscillating member for actuating said feed roll; an adjustable `connection between the member and one of the crank disks whereby t the web may be fed forward after eachnperation of the press; a knife for severing the web mounted on the frame, a lever pivotally mounted on the press and adapted to be oscillated by a pin on one of the crank disks, a rod connecting` this lever with the knife; a spring for retracting the knife and levers; and web slitting devices on the frame.
9. In combination with a bed and platen job press having rotatable cranks and pitmen for oscillating the platen, a frame, a web roll support on said frame, a web tightening roll pivoted to said frame operable by its own weight, web guides for directing' the web to and through the press, a web feed roll mounted on the said frame, an oscillating member for actuating the feed roll, an adj ustable member between the oscillating member and one of the cranks of the press, and means on the frame for severing the web operable by one of thecranks of the press; the web guides including a roll adapted to be elevated or lowered on the said frame between the platen and the web feed roll to facilitate adjusting the web so that the impression will be in proper position with respect to thelsevered edge.

In combination with a bed and platen job press or the like an attachment comprising a frame, a web support mounted on said frame, a gravity controlled tension roll pivoted so as to maintain a constant pressure on the web as it. unwinds from the web roll, web guides for directing web to and through the press, a web feed roll mounted on said frame, an oscillating member for actuating said roll, an adjustableL connection between the member and one of the pit-men of the press to vary the feed of the web, la knife for severing the web mounted on the'frame, a lever pivotally mounted on the press and adapted to be actuated by one of the cranks of the press, a rod connecting said lever with the knife, the webguides including a 'roll adapted to be elevated or lowered on said frame between the platen and the web feed roll to facilitate adjusting the feeding of the roll with respect to theknife, and means for elevating or lowering said guide roll.
11. In'combination with a bed and platen job press or the like, an attachment comprisinga web-support adapted to be secured to any suitable foundation immediately infront of the press', a gravity controlled roll held by arms pivotally connected to said support,
member and one of the cranks of the press to vary the feed of the web, a knife for severing the web mounted on the frame; a lever pivotally mounted on the'press, and means for connecting said lever with the knife, the

elevated or lowered on the frame between the platen and the web feed roll to facilitate lengthening or shortening the portion of the `web between the platen and the web fed roll.

In combination with a bed and platen job press or the like, an attachment comprising a frame, a web support immediately in front of said frame, a gravity controlled tension device adapted to rest upon the web as it unwinds from the web roll, guides for directing the .web toand through the press including, a guide roll adapted to be elevated or lowered on said frame immediately above the platen of the press, a web feed roll mounted on said frame, an oscillating member actuating the feed roll, an adjustable connection between said member and one of the pitmen of the press, web slitting devices mount-ed on the frame, and means for severing the web.`
