IMPROVEMENT IN DEsKs.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169.65 l, dated November 9, 1875; application led March 30, 1875.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH MCGLURG, of Pittsburg, in `the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Desks, of which the following is a specification:

My invention relates to any desk or table used for writing or drawing; but more particularly to that class used in bookkeeping or correspondence g and the improvements which I have made therein consist in the arrange- .ment ot' a portion of the @over or lid of the desk, so constructed as to be drawn out from the main portion oi' the cover, at the option of the operator, that he may7 with equal facility write at the top or bottom of a large page, While the work from which he is copying or posting remains upon the permanent portion of the desk; also, to the combination with such a movable lid of hinged Wings or drops, so constructed and arranged that the movable lid may be elevated to such angle, other than the permanent angle oi the desk-top, as may be easiest for the operative.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspecth'e view of a desk embracing my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section, showing the movable lid drawn out at the same angle as the remainder of the desk-top. Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section, showing the movable lid partially drawn out and elevated to a level.

to the under side ot" which I hinge the an gular pieces D D, which, when the piece B is at the angle of A, remain folded up, but when dropped down raise the lid B to another angle or to a level. The pieces D are constructed ot' a form which will admit of their constant adjustment ot' the lid B to the angle best suited to the operative.

Having described my invention, I claim- The leaf B hinged to the slide E and provided With the drops D D, the whole oonstructed and operating in combination with the desk A A', substantially as described, and for the purpose Aset forth.
