A further object of the invention is to provide a collapsible hanger as aforesaid, including as a part thereof a vertical supporting member which forms a protecting shield for the other parts of the hanger when the same is suspended in folded position.

A further object of the invention is to provide a hanger as aforesaid which is compact, readily portable, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description. y

are disposed in overlapping relation and are formed with transversely extending, aligned bores, through which extend` a pivot pin 4. The pivot pin 4 also extends through transversely bored spacing block 5, and through a transverse bore provided in the supporting member 1. The spacing' block 5 is interposed between the supporting member 1 and the `arm 2, thus it will be seen that the arms 2 and 3 are connected together by the pivot pin 4, and also pivoted to the supporting member 1 in spaced relation thereto. The arms 2 and 3 are formed with arcuate outer ends, as indicated at 6.

Pivotally connected to the arm 2, between the transverse median andy the outer end thereof, is a brace 7, which is free to swing about its pivotally connecting vpin 8. The opposite end of the brace 7 is formed with a notch or recess 9, which is adapted to receive therein a stud 10 'which projects forwardly from the forward face of the arm 3. The stud 10 and pin 8 are disposed at equal `distances from the pin 4. lhen the arms 2 and 3 are in extended position as shown in Figure l, they are prevented from pivoting about the pin 4 by means of the brace 7 and the brace 7 is prevented from becoming displaced from the stud 10, longitudinally of the latter, by means of a supporting member 1 which extends across the outer face of the brace 7 in contact therewith. The notched end of the brace 7 kis spaced from the arm 3 and may be pushed slightly inwardly to remove the frictional contact between the brace 7 and supporting member 1 when it is desired to disengage the notch 9 from the stud 10.

` Secured tothe outer face of the supporting member 1, by means of suitable holdfast devices 11, is a clamp 12. The clamp 12 consists of a pair of opposed'members having spaced, parallel portions 13 and 14 respectively, which converge as shown at 15, and terminate in parallel jaw` portions 16. The opposing faces of the members 13 and 14 are provided with ears 17 which are pivotally connected together. Disposed between the spaced parallel portions 13 and 14, is a coiled spring 18, the ends of which respectively abut the inner faces of the portions 13 and 14. The upper ends of the clamp 12 and supporting member 1 terminate in the same horizontal plane, and a transverse bore extends through the mem- (lil bers l and let to receive therethrough a suitable hook 19, :tor suspendinzgr the hanger.

Then the hanger is not in use it maybe 'folded as shown in Figure 4, in which position the supper-thm` member l, brace 7 and arms 2 and 3 are in parallel relation and the hanger as a "whole presents an attractive appearance. ln folded position the brace 7, and arms 2 and 3 are disposed rearwardly of the supportingr member l and are protected thereby.

It is to be understood that the. embodiment herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement o parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention "or the scope of the appended claims.

That I claim is:

l. A hanger comprising a pair of arms, a brace pivoted to one arm and adapted for removable connection with the other arm, and a supporting member 'lor pivotally supporting the arms and for holding the brace in position.

2. A hanger comprising a pair of arms having their inner ends pivoted together in overlappingV relation, a brace pivoted to one arm and adapted for removable connection with the other arm, a supleiortingr member to which the arms are pivotally connected, and a spacing block interposed bet/Ween the supporting member and arms, said supporting member extendingr across the outer face of the brace to trictionally hold the latter in position to maintain the arms in opposed relation.
