SHADE BRACKET.

This invention relates to a bracket designed primarily for supporting window shades, but it is to be understood that it may be. employed for .any purposesy for which it is found applicable, and the. invention has for its object to provide, ina manner as hereinafter set forth, a supporting bracket including means for detachably clamping 1t in supporting position to a window frame Without the employment of separate holdfast devices, such as nails and screws, whereby the frame is not damaged or marred in any manner.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a window shade bracket constructed and'` arranged to provide forthe expeditious clamping thereof to a Window frame in position to support a shade roller and without Vthe employment of nails and screws to maintain the bracket in supporting position.
A further object of the invention is to nrovide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a bracket for supporting a shade rollerconstructed and arranged to fit different widths of top rails,A bars or members of window frames.

See Figure 4, The to'p edges of the sides 19, 2O are not integral with the to 18, and the latter can be secured to tlie sides 19, 20 by flexible tie members 22 which extend through openings 23 formed in said top and sides. See Figure 7. -The tie members 22 can be dispensed with if desired. The side 2O is slittedat two spaced points, transversely thereof, as at 24 and the material freed by said slits and which is indicated at 25 is bentto seat against the outer face of the front 17 and formed integral with said portion 25 is a forwardly directed extension 26 which provides the arm7 or 8. The width of the portion 25 corresponds to half of the width of the front 17 whereby the extension 26 will bel disposed at the vertical median of said front 17. That part of the side 20, other than the portion 25 thereof, at itsrear is formed with an inwardly extending angle shaped flange 27 providing a guide. The rear of the side 19 is formed with an inwardly extending angle shaped flange 28 which also provides a guide. The guides 27 and 28 receive the sides of the section 16, guiding the latter during its movements as well as slidably connecting it to the section 15.
The section 16 comprises a front 29, a bot- Htom 30 and a pair of sides 31, 32. rlhe width of the bottom 30 is greater than the width of eitherof the sides whereby7 said bottom iwill project from the rear of said sides. The width of the bottom 30 is greater than the width of the sides of the section 15. The rear of the bottom 30 is formed with a toothed flange 33 parallel with the inner face of the front 29 and it provides a clamping member for securing the section 16 lower ends, are connected to the bottom 30 by bcndable lugs-34 carried by said sides and extending through openings 35 formed in the bottom 30. See Figure 6,
Secured to. the front 17 of the section 15, as well as projecting forwardly thereof and arranged a substantial distance above the extension 26 is an` angle shaped member 35 which provides the arm 13 or 111. The member 35 has its inner end upset as at 36 against the inner face of the front 17. The top edgeof the front 29, of the section 16 is formed with a notch 37 to provide a clearance for the upset portion 36 of the member 35. y
The sections 15 and 16 are normally maintained in non-extended position, due to the action of a coiled controlling spring 38 which has one end anchored to the top 18 of the section 15, as at 39 and its other end anchored to the bottom 30, of the section 16 as at 40. The sections of the body portion are extended against` the action of the controlling spring 38 and said spring 38 acts to maintain the toothed flanges in engagement with the top and bottom edges of the bar 1. v
When positioning the bracket the sections of the body portion are extended in a manner such that the top of the section 15 will overlap the top edge of the bar 1 and the bottom of the section 16 will overlap the lower edge of the bar 1 and when the seetions are released, the controlling spring 38 will act to cause the toothed flanges to ex tend into the har 1 whereby the bracket will be dctachably secured in position. The springs 38 will permancntlyaet, to clamp, in connection with the toothed flanges, the bracket to the bar 1 of the window frame. "he bracket is secured in position, to the window frame, without the employment of lzoldfast devices, such as nails and screws, and under such conditions the front of theA top of the frame is not marred or damaged in any manner. As the body portion is formed with a pair of telescopic sections, it can be adjusted to tit top bars of window frames of varying widths.
It is thought the many advantages of a shade supporting'bracket, in accordance with this invention can be readily understood,
and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated and described, yet it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which fall within the scope of tho invention as claimed.
What l claim is:
1. In a supporting bracket for the purpose set forth comprising a lengthwise adjustable body portion formed of inner and outer slidl ably connected telescopic sections of chan nel shaped cross section, the outer section closed at its top and the inner section closed at its bottom, a controlling spring common to said sections, arranged ,therein and hav ing one end anchored to said top and its other end anchored to said bottom, said outer section having its top formed with a toothed flange to provide a clamping member, said inner section having its bottom formed with a toothed flange providing.;l a l clamping member, said flanges extending inwardly at right angles with respect to said top and bottom, and a forwardly extending supporting arm carried by said outer section.

A supporting bracket for the purpose set forth comprising a lengthwise adjustable body portion formed of inner and outer slidably connected telescopio sections, said outer section formed of a front, a pair of sides and a top, said inner section formed of a front, a bottom and a pair of sides, the sides of said outer section formed with means to provide guides for the sides of the inner section, the top of the outer section being of greater width than the sides thereof and projecting rearwardly therefrom, the bottom of the inner section being of greater width than the sides thereof and projecting rearwardly therefrom, a controlling spring common to said sections, arranged therein and having one end anchored to said top and its other end anchored to said bottom, inwardly extending right angularly disposed flanges carried by said top and bottom and providing clamping members for said body portion, and one of the sides of said outer section having a pair of spaced slits, ,the
material freed by the slits positioned against the top of said outer section and terminating in a forwardly directed arm for supporting a shade roller pintle.

A supporting bracket for the purpose set forth comprising a lengthwise adjustable body portion formed of inner and outer slidably connected telescopic sections, said outer section formed of a front, a pair of sides and a top, said inner section formed of a front, a bottom and a pair of sides, the sides of said outer section formed with means to provide guides for the sides of the inner section, the top of the outer section being ofgreatcr width than the sides thereof and projecting rearwardly therefrom, the bottom of the inner section being of greater width than the sides thereof and projecting rearwardly therefrom, a controlling sprinJr common to said sections and having one end anchored to said top and the other end anchored to said bottom and arranged within said sections, inwardly extending right angularly disposed flanges carried by said top and bottom and providing clamping members for said body portion, and a supporting arm projecting forwardly from the front of said outer section.

the sides of one of said sections formed with means to provide guides for the sides of the other of said sections, the tops and bottoms of said sections being of greater width than the sides ,thereof and projecting rearwardly therefrom, a controlling spring common to said sections, arranged therein and having one end anchored to said top and its other end anchored to said bottom, inwardly extending right angularly disposed toothed flanges carried by said top and bottom and providing clamping members for said body portion, and a supporting arm projecting forwardly from the front of said outer section.
