Application filed December 21, 1926. Serial No. 156,188.
' This invention relates to bathing caps and is addressed to p rovidin a bathing cap, that while adapted to fit hea s of various sizes, is
addressed more particularly to providing a bathing cap that will fit tightly to the wearers head so as to prevent access of water under the cap. a i
By this invention, a cap of any desired form or shape may be used; thereby," affording means for either making the cap fancy or plain as desired.
In the accompanying drawing, as shown in Fig. 1, is the cap and in Fig. 2 a cross-section of same. In the drawing A is the cap proper, which is made of any suitable flexible watertion, which, as shown, encloses on all, except the inner side, a tube 0. This tube C is of a flexible water-proof elastic material, such flated by air or gas of any kind. D is an ordinal. valve to permit the gas or air to be injected into tube C and when the requisite amount has been so injected, the valve is closed. Likewise, the tube may bedeflated by opening the'valve and ermitting' the escape of the air or gas. The brim or outer portion B which encloses the tube 0 on all but the inner side which contacts with the wearers head is of an inelastic material so that inflation of the tube C results in reducing the diameter of that portion of the cap which con: tacts with the wearers head and by reason of the tube being of an elasticor rubber like nature, it readily conforms to the configuration of the wearers head and is held there by the flexible, water-proof, inelastic portion B as will be readily seen, the portion of the tube 0 contacting with the'wearers head proof material. B is the brim or lower poras rubber, which is easily expanded or in head coverin with means a apted to be inflated to force the may be increased or decreased and the pressure on the wearers head'hkewise mcreased or decreased b the addition of air or gas to increase the in ation of the tube or by permitting the air or as to escape so as to decrease the inflation. This also provides for adjusting the fit of the cap to the wearers head, while at the same time creating a water seal. The inflated tube 0 also serves to assist the bather in floating by its buoyancy.
In place of, or in addition to, the inelastic outer portion B, .I may provide, when desirable, 'an inelasticadjustable band or tape E. When this is provided, the band portion B may be either elastic or inelastic material as this adjustable ta'pe E provided with a buckle-F serves to control the size of the cap.
I claim:
1. A-bathing cap composed of a flexible water-proof head covering, a band therefor arranged entirely on the outside of said head covering portion so as to provide .a non-ob structed-inner surface to said head covering portion, said band consisting of a water-proof elastic portion adapted to be'inflated to conform to the wearers head and a flexible 66 water-proof inelastic portion surrounding said inflatable portion on three sides thereof. 2. A bathing cap composed of a flexible.
water-proof head covering, and a band there for'arranged entirely on the outside of said 7 head covering portion so as to provide an uninterrupted surface on the inside of the said portion, said band provided head covering portion to conform to the 76 wearers head and means preventing the inflation of said inflatablevmeans in any direction other than toward the head of the wearer.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
I OSCAR A. BIGLER.
