ATTORNEYS W. D. SCALF CASH FARE MANIPULATOR Original Filed July 14,

WITNESSES WLLIAIVI DAW SCALE, OF PLNVILLE, KENTUCKY.
CASH-FARE llfAPULATOR.
Application filed July 14, 1926, Serial No. 122,485 Renewed October V15, 1928.
This invention relates to cash fare manipula-tors and has for its object a simple, efhcient and reliable device for compactly housing book of 'tickets and is provided -fith means -for removing neatly, portions of the tickets to indicate the amount of fare paid,
A Jfurther object of the invention is the provision of ticket holder which includes n ior permitting the removal of a portion oit' the ticket, said means also operating torce the stubs out of Contact with an unmutilated ticket so that the portion of said icket may be removed as previously stated, he displacement oi the stubs, permitting the ast ticket to be readily detached.
Tl is invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description, in view of the accompany# drawings torming a part of the specifition; nevertheless it is to be understood the invention is not conlined to the discle b i g susceptible of such changes and modilics ions which shall define no material departure from the salient features of the invention as cnpressed in the appended "7 ims.
i the drawings:
1 a view in perspective ot' a cash receipt manipulator, constructed acto the principles of my inventiom re 2 is a longitudintal vertical section the manipulator,
jure is transverse horizontal section 11s.." ialong the line 3-3 of Figure 2,
.Figure slis plan view of one form of receipt nployed with the manipulator,
Figure 5 is a plan view of another form ot the ticket.
letcrring more particularly to the drawdesignates a leather casing having 11 secured to the bottom of a met-al 12 by means of a separable fastener siown at 18 A. second leaf 14 acts as a cover for the front. of the housing 12. Tt will be seen that when the said leaf is in closed position, a very neat and compact hook-like form is presented.
The housing 12 has its tace adjacent the leaf 14 open while the portion of the housing as indicated at 15 forms the bottom of the same. An end wall 16 has an extension bent inwardly as shown at 17 in spaced relation from the end wall to provide a bearing or track for the inturned ends 18 of a bail 19. The opposite end of the housing is open and the side walls 2O adjacent the open end are sheared oil2 at an angle as shown at to eliminate sharp edges.
lt will be noted that the housing is formed ci one piece and the base member 15 has an extension 22 integrally formed therewith and bent inwardly in spaced relation with the bottom 15. The side edges of the eX- tension are bent downwardly as shown at 23 and lugs 24 at the inner end of the extension projecting from the end lugs 23 and inserted through perforations at the bottom 15 with sivaged edges securing the extension 22 to the said base member. The inner end 25 of the extension 22 is spaced from the member 1T in order to permit the ready insertion o1 the back 26 of the book of receipts, the space between the extension 22 and the base 15 proriding the housing for said back.
The bail 19 is provided with a pair of sp'ac d arms 27 connected at their outer ends by ymeans of a `bridging portion 28. This` bridge portion intermediate its ends is curved so that the same will lit neatly against the free ends 29 of the receipts and below the top oi the first receipt. A cutter 30 is slidably mounted with bearings 31 at its opposite ends which will receive the arms 27 of the bail. This cutter is provided with' a portion 32 adapted to be engaged between the lingers for the convenience of sliding the cutter over the surface of the receipt. The sharp edge 33 is termed on the' cutter so that when the tree ends 29 of an upper ticket are pulled with suihcient :torce a ticket will be shear-ed ofi by said cutting edge. The opposite edge 34 is enlarged and is adapted to ride over the tace of the receiptsso that after a portion oi a receipt has been removed leaving a stub the cutter may be moved beyond the free edges of the stub and then returned, `the enlarged edge 5/1 engaging` the tree end of the stub and moving a portion of the same upwardly and away from contact with the unniutilated receipt. By this construction it will be seen that the member 30 not only provides a. sharp edge for aiding in removing the tickets but the enlarged edge 341 provides for the displacement of the stubs so that the next unmutilated ticket or receipt may be snugly engaged by the cutting edge 33 for removing the portion of said receipt as desired This permits the ready removal of portions of all tickets down to the last receipt.
Tt will be noted that the bail is not only CII pivotally mounted between the end wall 16 Vand the in-bent portion 17 but the bail is also slidebly mounted so that the in-bent portion 18 may be moved inwardly towards the bottom l5 es the iare receipts are gradually 1einoved from the book, whereby the cutter 30 may be alway maintained in close Contact with an unmutilated fare receipt.
I claim:
l. A device of the character described Comprising a receptacle, having` a bottom, side walls, and an end wall, the end wall being; provided with an extension bent inwardly in spaced relation with the end wall, a bail of U-shaped construction having its free ends bent inwardly and located between the extension and the end wall so that the bail is not only .pivotally mounted but slidably mounted in the container7 a cutter having bearingson opposite ends, said bail including legs adapted to receive the bearings9 a cutter being provided with alznite at one edge and an enlargement at the opposite edge and means for maintaining a book of lare receipts in the container.
2. A device of the character described comprising` a receptacle, having a bottom, side walls, and an end wall, the end wall being provided with an extension bent inwardly in spaced. relation with the end wall, a
i bail of Lal-shaped construction having its edge, the base member being provided with an extension bent inwardly in spaced relation with the bottom of the' container to provide a housing' to receive the bacl of the boolr of fare receipts or maintaining the book against displacement.
