rllhis invention relates to certain novel improvements in sanitary wall tiles.

'llhe salient object of this invention is to provide a wall covering which may be eX- 5 peditiously installed and which may be arranged in position sowas to present a very neat appearance.

Another object of the invention is to provide a wall covering which when properly ar- )lo ranged will present a substantially water proof surface.

A further object of the invention is to provide a wall covering which may be easily cleaned and which will be so arranged as to 115 prevent theaecumulation of foreign matter behind the front surface of said tile.

Referring to the drawings wherein the preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated l depict a wall 10 which may be con- 45 structed in any approved manner. 1n order to provide a water-proof surface for this wall`l apparent to anyone skilled in the art any other form of material might be substituted therefor.

'llh'e tiles 11 embody a main member 12 which includes a front surface 13 and which ce has a portion 14 bent so as'to be substantially at right angles to the front portion 13, and this right angularly extending portion le terminates in a portion 15 which is disposed substantially parallel to the surface 13 but es which ext-ends but a short distance below lthe portion 14E. 'llhe opposite end of the surface 13 from the portion 14C includes a right angularly extending portion 16 which is disposed substantially parallel tothe portion le but 7c which is foreshortened. rllhe tile which has just been described is adapted to be used in the top row of tiles and will b-e referred to hereinafter as the crown tiles. @n the wall 10 near the upper part of the portion to be 75 covered by the tiles 11 suitable headed screws 17 are fastened into the wall 10. rlhe portion 15 of the crown tiles has a serrated edge which includes the recesses 18. As is clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the surface 20 of the member 19 is secured to the rear side of the face portion 13 of the tiles 11 at substan- 90 tially the central portion thereof. rlhis brace member 19 may be secured in position either by spot welding, riveting or other suitable securing means. It is to be understood that if vitreous material is employed the brace memg5 ber 19 might be secured in position by employing a -suitable adhesive medium. The portion 22 of the brace member 19 is such .that when the surface 20 is secured to the tiles in the manner described the surface 21 will lo@ be disposed so as to be in abutment with. the wall 10-so as to dispose the face'13 Asubstantially parallel but spaced away from the wall 10. The surface 21 of the brace member 19 has a plurality of holes 23 formed therein through which suitable securing devices such as the nails 24 may be extended so as to fasten the brace members securely to the wall 10 so as to rigidly anchor the tiles in position. As has been stated the portion 16 of the tiles is shortened .and this causes a space to be defined between the end of, this portion and the brace member 19 as is clearly shown in Fig., 2. The majority of the tiles,

to be employed are constructed somewhat diderently from the crown tiles which have been described. ln this instance the tiles embody a front portion 13 and a right angularly extending portion 14 which terminates in a hook formation 25. The length of the portion 14.- is such that when the tile is installed in position by inserting the hook portion 25 between the end of the portion 16 of the upper tile and the brace member 19 that theVV tile will be retained in position. Brace members 19, identical with those secured to the crown tiles aresecured to the remaining tiles in substantially the same manner as that in which the brace members are secured to ,said crown tiles. As is apparent from the drawings, the portion 21 of the brace mem- ,bers 19 is disposed so as to lie below the extent of the tile, that is, the surface 21 will be positioned behind the next lowest tile. rllhese surfaces 21 are secured to the wall 10 by the securing elements 24; in the manner described. The foregoing construction is carried out funtil the surface is covered to a point adja- )cent the door and at this point the base tiles r,are secured in posit1on`.

'llhese base tiles include a front surface 13 and anyupper surface 14e which has a hook portion '25. rllhe surface let and the hook Vv portion 25 are identical with those portions Lof the tiles described.. However, the front surface 13 terminates in a portion 26 which entends at right angles to the surface 12?/ in ia ldirection opposite from that in which Athe portion 14.! extends and this portion 26 is adapt/ed to engage the door 27. Suitable openin s 28 are provided in the portion 2d :and suitable securing elements such asl the yscrews 29 entend from these holes into the door 27 so as to secure the tiles in position.

ln Fig. 7 a modiedform of the invention ,is illustrated and the modication includes forming right angularly extending lips on the sides ofthe tile. At one end of the tiles a right angularly extending lip 30 is provided which is adapted to be of a length equal to the portion 16. @n the side opposite that to which the lip. 30 is connected a lip 31 is provided which includes a hook formation 32 'which is of a height equal to and which is formed substantially -similar to the hook formation 25 on the portion 14.! lt is appar- J ent thatthis formation will edectively seal tlf) have provided a wall covering comprised of tiles which 'may be expeditiously installed and which will be so arranged so as to prevent water and other substances from entering -into the space behind the tiles and due to the mounting employed it is apparent that the tiles may be very expeditiously cleaned.l lt is to be unde'stood that if so desired a suitable plastic material might be introduced between the

16 and 14 so as to further insure a more complete seal therebetween for the purpose described. i

While l have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into eiect, this is` capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims. v

Having thus` described my invention what ll claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: v

1. A. wall covering of the class-described including a member embodying a substantially flat surface and parallel portions disposed to extend at right angles to said dat sur face, certain of said parallel surfaces including securing means, and a brace member secured to the dat surface of said member on the rear side thereof having a portion adapted tcbe secured to the wall. v

2. A wall covering ofthe class described including' a plurality of members adapted to 'be disposed in juxtaposed horizontal rows,

said members including substantially flat surfaces adapted to be disposed in a plane in spaced relation with a wall and parallel portions adapted to extend toward said wall substantially perpendicular to said dat surface, said perpendicular surfaces embodying means on the engaging walls of said juxtaposed members for interlocking said members, and braces secured to the rear side of said dat portions adapted to extend below the connes thereof and to be secured to said wall for-fastening said members thereto.
