HOLDER FOR MOPS 0R BROOKS.
Appiieation led October 18,
This invention relates to a mop or broom holder and has for an object the provision of a clamping head, within which may be secured either broom straw or its equivalent, or a mop cloth or the like.
Another object ofthe invention is the provision of a clamping head of sectional formation to permit of the ready insertion and removal of the straw or mop and which includes straw or cloth engaging elements, the latter being operable when the sections are assembled so as to hold the straw or cloth in place.
Another object of the invention is the provision of novel means for assembling the sections and locking them in assembled position.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, Y illustrated in the accompanylng drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating the invention Figure 2 is a section taken substantially on the line 2 2 of Figure 1 With the broom straw removed.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section taken substantially at right angles to Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4 4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a detail perspective view of the removable section of the head.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the invention as shown comprises a head or housing which is of sectional formation. The housing includes a main section 10 and a removable section 11.
The housing when assembled is open at the bottom and the main section 1() is provided with a sleeve-like extension 12 which receives a handle 13. The main section 10 is cut away along one side and at each end as shown at 14 and the removable section 11 fits within this cut away portion and when assembled with the section 10 forms the complete housing. To assemble the sections, the main section is provided with spaced openings 15 which receive hook-shaped lugs 16, the ends of these lugs being Hush with the face of the main section 10 as shown in the drawings. The section 11 is thus removably and 1926. Serial No. 141,378
hingedly attached to the section 10. Ex-
tending from the section 11 are inwardly offset lugs 17 which engageover the ed of the cut away portion 14. A locking hind 18 is removably positioned around the housing sections near the bottom thereof and acts to, hold the sections assembled. The band 18 is provided with shallow sockets 19 which engage over projections 20 which extend from the face of one of the sections so as to removably hold the band in place.
Extending inwardly'from the sections 10` partition is secured by means of rivets or fastening devices 24 and is provided with an extension 25 which enters a slot provided in the handle 13, a bolt 25 serving to hold the handle in position. The partition 23 is further provided with recesses 26 along its opposite sides and these recesses form openings so as to provide communication between the upper end of the housing and the lower end. An oil or other liquid reservoir 27 is thus provided at the top of the housing. The reservoir 27 is provided with a filling opening 28 which is normally closed by a plug 29.
From the foregoing description and accompanying drawing` it is seen that the invention provides a removable head for a broom, or for a mop. When the latter is used, the mop material extends above the upper edge of the section 11 and prevents the leaking of oil or other liquid at this point, the said oil or liquid saturating the mop and passing to the outer end of the latter.
The .invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. In a device of the character described,
ng along the inside of the housing knear the top thereof is a partition 23. This a vhollow broom-"housing having a portion out away on one side thereof, and having apertures adjacent an edge of the out away portion, a section having xed lugs adapted to be detachably `cor'meeted in said apertures, a clamping band carried by said housing and adapted to hold the removable section in clamping position, and means interiorly of said housing and section` for holding the fibers of a mop or the straw of a broom.
2. In a device of thercharaeter described, a hollow housing having a portion thereof cutaway and having apertures adjacent one edge of the out away portion, "a section having fixed lugs adapted to engage in said apertures and means for connecting the removable. section to the mainV housing` in elamping position, projecting lugs Von the interior of the main housing and the detachable section :for gripping broom straws or fibers therebetween and a rib on the interior of one of said members, for Vgripping the upper end of the'ibers or straw. y v
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
