C. ARNOLD SPARK TOY Filed March 15, 1928 Dnvenhr;
Patented Nov. 20, 1928.
UNITED STATES cam. ARNOLD, or NUREMBERG, GERMANY.
SPARK TOY.
Application filed March 15, 1928, Serial No.
Spark toys have become known in which by a depression of a rack the spark producing mechanism and a disk having several transparents are rapidly rotated. The disk with the transparents is slowly rotated by the centrifugal force of the rotating vspark mechanism so that at certain intervals of time dilferently coloured sparks and in accordance therewith changing pictures become visible on the surface of the toy.
According to the invention a second disk having apertures and figurative representations is arranged above the spark producing mechanism and the'colour transparent-disk and loosely mounted on the shaft of the driving mechanism and casing in such a manner, that the spark produced by the spark producing mechanism and coloured by the transparents become visible in dilferent colours through the apertures. The disk is loosely mounted with a slot on the axle of the driv-.
ing mechanism sothat, when this driving.
a mechanism is functioning said disk is slight- 1y shifted and shaken sothat the picture on the disk, for instance a face, looks as if itwas animated.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing in which: 39 Fig. 1 isa side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
The driving mechanism a mounted in a. casing is operated, in a manner known per se, by a rack b. On the vertical shaft 0 of the driving mechanism a. spark producing devipe f and a disk g with coloured transparents are mounted. 7
According to the invention another disk h i a is rotatin 261,932, and in Germany December 6, 1927.
is loosely mounted on the shaft 0 above the disk g with transparents, said disk h having a downwardly bent arm iengaging with a slot is of the top plate of the casing to secure saiddisk 72, against rotation. On the upper surface of disk b any design can be painted, for instance a face as shown in Fig. 2. In this disk It apertures l are arranged through which the changing coloured sparks are risible, Owing to the slit m in the disk It engaging over the vertical shaft 0 the disk h is moved to and fro and shaken when the shaft so that the picture on the upper surface of disk 11 looks as if itwere animated.
I claim p v A spark toy, comprising in combination with the spark producing mechanism mounted on a vertical shaft driven from a rackoperated driving mechanism and with a disk rotatably mounted onsaid vertical shaft above said spark producing mechanism and having apertures with coloured transparents, a second disk above said disk with transparents loosely mounted on said shaft by means of a slot said loose disk having for instance a face painted on its upper surfaceand several apertures in the same, and means for securing said loose disk against rotation but permitting shifting movements of the same so that, when said vertical shaft is rotating, said p that it looks as if the face painted on its upper surface was animated the coloured sparks becoming visible through the apertures in said loose disk. 7
In testimony whereof I CARBARNOLD.
afiix my signature.
