CLOSING AND REGULATIN G COCK FOR ALL LIQUIDS AND GASES.
Application filed May 4, 1926, Serial No 106,772, and in France June 13, 1925.
My invent-ion relates to a closing and regulating cock for all liquids and gases and atall pressures orvacuums, in which the output is stopped or regulated by operating a button and by the action of a diaphragm upon a ball which serves to open or close the inlet for the gases or liquids.
Due to the disposition and the combination of the said parts, the use of a stu'iing box is dispensed with, and the said cock does not comprise a third connection with the atmosphere such as occurs in devices for the inseri'on of the barrel or the needle of the usual coc r. v
The appended drawings show by way of example an embodiment of the invention.

As shownin the drawing, the said cock comprises a cylindrical body 1, consisting of brass, which is closed on the front side and forms on the front face a cup 2 with screwthreaded walls. The said body is pierced at the centre in order to form a `central iiange or cup 3 and a passage 4 which communicates with a tapped lorifice disposed at a rightangle thereto for the admission of the gas or liquid.4 The cup 2 of said body communicates through a passage 6 with a tapped orifice for thedischarge of thegas or liquid.
The body is closed by a screwthreaded cover 7 which is screwed upon the cup 2. Said cover has a cylindrical portion 8 which is pierced at its centre with a tapped hole and has at the rear face a 'semispherical recess. Upon the rear face of the said cover is mounted a tinned brass diaphragm 9 which is secured by soldering and is suitably shaped at its centre by the stamping process so as to fit into the semispherical recess of the said cover, and also to it upon a ball 10 serving as a valve for which the seating is formed by the outer end of the passage 4. A packing ring 11 of fibre, lead or like material is placed between the cover 7 and t-he end of the cup 2 so that the cover will have a fluidtight mounting upon the body of the cock.
The diaphragm 9 has concentric. corrugations of the proper shape which are formed by the stamping process, whereby it is made elastic as well as rigid.
A screwthreaded tube 12, carrying a milled knob 13, is screwed into tliecylindrical part 8 of the cover 7 and it forms a recess co-operating with a step bearing 14 which is loosely engaged in the said tube. vThe head of the said bearing makes contact with the diaphragm 9, and its other end makes contact with a steel button 15 which abuts against the inner face of the knob 13 adjacent the inner end of the tube 12. y
The apparatus is completed by a coupling member 16 which is mounted on the inlet for the gas or liquid, and by a second coupling member 17 which is screwed within the outlet orifice.
In the modified form of the invention shown in Fig. 3, the gas or liquid inlet 16 extends through the rear wall of the device into direc-t communication with the conduit 4', the latter being straight instead of angular as in Fig. 1.
It will be noted `from the foregoing that by operating the milled button 13 in the direction to screw the tube 12 into the portion 8 oi the cover 7 the step bearing 14-through the medium of the button 15--will drive out the diaphragm 9 which will make contact with the valve ball 10, so that the ball will be pressed upon its seat. The cock will now be in the closed'position.
When the milled head 13 is turned in the other direction, the diaphragm 9 due to its elasticity will resume its initial form and will again enter the recess in the cover 7, driving back the step-bearing 14 and the button 15. The valve ball 10 which is freed from the pressure of the diaphragm 9 and is subjected to the pressure of the gas or liquid contained in the conduit 4, will be raised from its seat, this giving passagel to the liquid or gas. which thus enters the cup 2 of the body 1 and is discharged through the passage G and thence through the outlet. The discharge can be easily regulated by turning the head 13 in the unscrewing direction for an increased discharge, or in the other direction for .a decreased discharge by moying the valve ball 10 from or towards its sea The device hereinbefore described is given solely by way of example, andthe forms ot the apparatus the details 'of construction, the accessories, material and dimensions may vary according to circumstances without departingvfrom the principle of the invention.
