Patented Oct. 26,1875.
WJITNQSES: M 7??? momma N PETERS. PHOTOALHHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GEORGE WASHINGTON BROSIUS, OF GALLATIN, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE VAPOR BATHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,142, dated October 26, 1875; application filed August 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON BROSIUS, M. D., of Gallatin, in the county of Daviess and State of Missouri, have invented a new and ImprovedPortable Vapor Bath, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in claim. v
Figure I is a plan view, with some parts shown in section, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation. k
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The box is composed of a bottom board, A, top board B, and four sides, consisting of frames 0, covered with oiled silk or cloth D, and the sides, top, and bottom are fastened together by hooks E and eyes F, so as to be readily put together and taken apart. A portion, G, of the top and a part of one side are connected together, and form a door capable of opening to admit the patient, and closing him in below the neck, which extends up through the hole H. Inside is a seat, I, for the patient, which has a back, J, that folds down for packing, and the seat is adjustable up and down the grooved frame-pieces K, to regulate it in height to suit the patient. The back part of the seat has T-heads L, which slide in the grooves behind flanges or ribs M of the frame-pieces which hold the heads from pulling out, and the bottom of the seat has braces N, which catch in the notches O in the frame-pieces, and hold the seat up. The seat is readily detached from the frame-pieces by sliding the T-heads up out of the grooves at the top. The furnace P, for heating the medical substances to make the vapors, is inclosed in a little tin box, which slides into and out of the main box'under the seat, and has a sliding cover, Q, to regulate the heat, and directly over the fire-pot is a pan, R, for holding the substances to be vaporized. The furnace is surrounded by a perforated metal shield, to prevent accidental injury to the patient by touching the furnacewith his feet or hands, and on the top of this shield is a water-pan, S, Which has a tongue, T; on the bottom to slide under a clip, V, to keep it from being accidentally displaced. The foot-rest W has a water-pan, X, similarly attached to it,
and it has a chamber below in which heat can be placed, if necessary.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the bottom board A, top board B, and the frame and cloth sides 0 D, when constituting a vapor-bath box, and being detachably connected together by hooks and eyes, all substantially as specified.
