Description

Nov. 6, 1928. 1,690,978
L. JATUNN TOY MONOPLANE Filed July 22, 1927 WITNESS: ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 6, 1928.
UNITED STATES LILLIAN JA'IUNN, OF TROY, MONTANA.
TOY MONOPLANE.
Application filed July 22, 1927. Serial No. 207,756.
This invention relates to improvements in toy monoplanes and has for an object the provision of an elastic or inflatable monop-lane into which gas or other similar fluid may be introduced to inflate and render the toy lighter than air, so that the toy will sail or float in simulation of a monoplane.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a toy of this character having wings I res nsive to the action of the air through which the toy is traveling, so that the wings will produce a sound in imitation of the sound of a monoplane in flight.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully trated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of ,Fi re 1.
igure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the toy which is formed to simulate a monoplane 1s constructed of rubber or other elastic and inflatable material and comprises a body or fuselage 10 from which extend wings 11. The body is hollow, throughout its length bein formed preferably of thin rubber and as its rear end shaped to provide hollow horizontal and vertical rudders 12 and 13 respectively. The rudders communicate with the interior of the bod 40 I The wings 11 extend from opposite sides of the body 10 and like this body areformed of thin rubber or inflatable material. The wings are provided along their leading edges with tubular portions 15 which communicate with the interior of the body, the outer ends of these tubular portions extending along the outer edges of t e wings as indicated at 16 and ternunating at the rear or leaving edges described, illusof the wings. These last referred to edges of the wings extend slightly beyond the rear ends of the tubular portions 16 as shown at gas or other buoyant fluid will be introduced. V
This tubular extension is adapted tobe closed by a cord or string 19 and the latter may be used to cause the toy to sail rapidly through the air.
The nose of the body 10 is provided with a relatively thick extension 20. A pointed and headed element 21 is forced into this extens1on and provides means for mounting a propeller 22.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed 1s 1- 1. An inflatable toy comprising a mono-' plane formed of elastic material and including a hollow body simulating the fuselage of a monoplane with vertical and horizontal rudso ders at one end thereof, sheet rubber win extending from opposite sides of the body, hollow inflatable leading edges provided upon the wings to stiffen said edges, said inflatable edges communicating with the hollow body, means whereby fluid may be introduced into the body and wings and a propeller for the monoplane. s
2. An'inflatable toy comprising a monoplane formed of elastic material and includso ing a hollow body simulating the fuselage of a monoplane with vertical and horizontal rudders at one end thereof, wings extending from the opposite sides of the body, hollow inflatable leading edges provided upon the wings. and communicating with the hollow body, the remaining portion of the wings being formed of thin sheet rubber with the leaving edges of the wings free to be acted upon by air to produce sound.
3. An inflatable toy comprising a monoplane formed of elastic material and including a hollow body simulating the fuselage of a monoplane with Vertical and horizontal rudders at one end thereof, wings extending from opposite sides of the body, means whereby fluid may be inserted into the body, arelatively thick sealed nose portion extending from the front end of the body, a propeller and a headed pointed element extending into the nose portion and upon which the propeller is rotatably mounted.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
