Description
Patented oct. 3o, 192s.
FERDINAND FRANZ BENZ, OF HAMBURGrGERMANY.
RAPID FREEZER.
Application filed October 4, 1927. Serial No. 223,945.
- tinguished bygreat resistance and simple and further by covering the inner .surface of said cheap cmistruction, and presents the advantage that no spare parts are required.
According to the invention the freezer consists of a double-walled evacuated metal vessel, the outer Wall of which, made of light metal for instance sheet aluminium, isvairtightly solthered together with the inner Wall made of polished Gern'lan silver, and further of an insertion adapted to be closed and serving as mould for the iceblock to be produced.
-A further feature of the invention is a conical 'airevacuated stopper' 1n the open upper end of the inserted mould.
An embodiment of the invention is shown by Way of exan'iple, in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 `shows the rapid ice-producer in longitudinal section.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the insertion on line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section showing the stopper for the insertion. i
Fig. et is a side elevation of Fig. 3.
The metal vessel Which is preferably cylindrical has an outer Wall l of light metal, for instance of aluminium, and an inner wall 2 of German silver, the Walls being airtightly connected, the one with the other, by soldering after the space between the said two Walls has been evacuated in. order to ensure a good insulation. The insulation can be further improved by covering the outer surface of Wall l with a layer 3 of cork, paper or the like and wall eventually with a lining of the same material.
This double-vvalled metal vessel 1, .2 is designed to be filled with the freezing mixture and specially with a freezing solution of the kind used generally in tropical climates for the production of ice, for instance a mixture of ammonium sulphate with soda, or the like. As the inner Wall of the vessel must be specially resistant against the action of the freezing solution, it is preferably made of polished the upper end, so that a slightly conical neck 4 is formed, designed to receive the corresponding conical top portion 6 of the insertion 5. The top edge 7 of the top portion 6 is The inner Wall is offset at flanged in outward direction to limit the inserting of the insertion and to facilitate the removal of the same. The insertion proper 5 is conical and has longitudinal grooves 8 in its inner surface designed to enlarge the surface upon which the freezing-solution acts and to accelerate the freezing of the mass in the insertion, for instance water.
The insertion 5 is closed at thc top end by a hollowstopper 9 which is air evacuated and air tightly closed. The stopper is conical andl tits tightly into the top portion 6 of the insertion 5. YVhen the stopper 9 is pressed into the top portion 6 this top portion, and conse- Aquently the insertion 5, is securely fixed -in the neck 4 no rubber packingsor the like being required Which Would be easily de.
stroyed by thelfreezing-solution, and no other auxiliary means being required which easily deteriorate in tropical climates and are ditlicult to replace.
The top end of the vessel is covered by a cap 11 which rests upon a circular shoulder l2 of the outer Wall l of the vessel.
To use the freezer, freezing solution is filled into the vessel, the insertion body 5 inserted into the neck 4 and Water orany other mass filled into the insertion, whereupon the stopp-er 9 is inserted. After about 15 to 20 minutes the iceblock can be removed after removing the stopper 9. i
Vhen the freezer' has to be frequently transported it is preferably enclosed in a sheet ironl casing which may be locked.
I claim A rapid freezer comprising in combination a double-walled evacuated metal vessel for the freezing solution the outer Wall of which is of light metal, the inner wall being of German silver said inner wall being offset at the upper end to form a slight-ly conical neck, an insertion serving as mould for the iceblock to be produced and tightly fitting into the neck portion of said Vessel and having longitudinal grooves pressed in the inner surface to enlarge the surface upon which said freezing solution acts, a .slightly conical portion at the upper end of saidinsertion, tightly fitting into said neck, and an air evacuated air tightly closed conical stopper tightly fitting into the top portion of said insertion'.l
In testimony whereof I affix Inv signature.
FERDINAND FRANZ BENZ.
