The present invention relates generally to brushes, such as are commonly used for cleaning floors or walls,`and which type of brushes `are generally provided with handles ofvarious lengths in accordance Vwith the Vparticular use to which the brushis applied. w
i The primary object of the present invention resides in the provision of a novel type of coupling whereby brushes, mops and the like, may be -swivelly mounted upon handles for permitting of the brushy proper to be adjusted relative to the handle. y
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of ,a novel mounting or coupling means between'the brush proper' and handle therefor whereby the angular relation of the handle to the brush may be adjusted, and the position of the longitudinal or major axis of the brush proper adjustedr with respect to the axis of the handle.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a novel` type of handle mounting for brushes embodying novel locking features whereby the handle may be ad-l justed and locked at various angles of inclination with the brush proper, and which mounting also permits of the handle to beV rotated about the brush proper and locked at any desired angle for permitting of the brush to be effectively used in close places or locations where it is desirable that the brush properbe disposed with its major axis `at an angle to the axis of the handle.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a handle mounting for brushes which may be economically manufactured from sheet metal, thus providing a mounting which may be applied to brushes without materially increasing of the cost thereof.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which drawing.

The brush A in the example shown, embodies a head 10 of rectangular shape in plan, and which head serves as a carrier lfor the tufts of bristles V11. The brush A has merely been shown by way of example, one manner lof use for the improvedmounting, and it will be understood that the brush head 10 may serve for the supporting of other elements such as cotton strands or the like and not necessarily serve as a supporting means for bristles such as illustrated.

When desiring to adjust'the' angular-relelas tion of the handle C to the brush head l0, the catch 35 is first slid longitudinally along the handle sothat the arms of the head 37 align with the arcuate shaped slots 30, and in which position the handle Cmay be readily swung about its pivotQT to the desired'angle and after which the catch 35 may be slid into either of the recesses 3l or 32 for locking the handle in the desired angular position. lVhen desiring to rotate the handle C upon the brush head l0, the pivot bolt 45 will permit of the quadrants lto be tilted so as to lift the ears 5l out of the notches 22 of the slot 2l and thus permitting the handle to be adjusted relative to the brush head for disposing thel longitudinal or major axis of the brush head in the desired adjusted position with respect to the axis of the handle C.
From the foregoingdescription it will be apparent that a novel and efficient vhandle mounting for brushes, mops and the like has been provided, which is oi extremely simple and durable construction, and which. is of' such construction as to permit of the angular I' relation of a. handle to be adj usted into various positions with respect to the brush head, and embodying locking means' whereby the handle is retained in 'either of its various adjusted positions with respect to the brush proper.
Changes in detail may be made to the specific form of theinvention herein shown and described, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the following claims.
I claim:
l. In a handle mounting for brushes, an attaching cap for connection withV the brush head and provided with an arcuate shaped slot and notches opening into the slot, a quadrant, means mounting said quadrant upon the attaching cap so that it may be rotated and tilted with respect to said cap, a key rigidly carried by said quadrant' having a f Vportion extending into said arcuate slot and 'positions with respect to the quadrant.
3. In a handle mounting for brushes. an
attaching vCap for connectionl with the brush head comprising a bearing ring and a pivot plate arranged inwardly of the bearing ring and disposed below the upper edge thereof, said pivot plate being provided with an arcuate shaped slot having notches opening thereinto, a-quadrant pivotally mounted axially of the pivot plate and yieldably engaging the im n upper edge of the bearing ring, a key rigidly carried by the quadrant inwardly of the bearing ring, embodying an arcuate shaped guide plate movable in the arcuate shaped slot of the pivot plate and provided at its upper edge with laterally projecting ears for engaging in said notches of the arcuate shaped slot for locking of the quadrant at various degrees of rotation upon the attaching cap, and means for pivotally connecting a handle at onev end to said quadrant.

In a handle mounting for brushes, an attaching cap stamped from sheet metal, embodying a bearing ring having feet projecting from the lower edge thereof for attach` ment to the brush head and a pivot plate arranged inwardly of the bearing ring below the upper edge thereof and provided with an axially disposed flanged opening, said pivot plate being provided with a semi-circular shaped slot arranged concentric with the flanged opening andhaving notches opening into'the slot, a quadrant, a pivot member extending thru said flanged opening and quadrant for rotatably mounting of the quadrant upon the attachingcap, a key rigidly carried j by the quadrant embodying an arcuate guide plate movable in said semi-circular shaped slot and provided at its upper edge with laterally projecting ears for klocking engagement inthe notchesof the semi-circular shaped slot, and means for pivotally connecting a handle at one end to said quadrant with the pivotal axis of the handle at a right` angle to the axis of the pivot member for the quadrant..y
