My invention relates to receptacles for holding and dispensing face powder and the like in loose forni and particularly to a form of device such as that shown in my prior ap- 21, .1925, ofwhich this application is a continuation in part. i
It is one of the objects of my present invention to provide in a device of this type a new and improved liorm and arrangement of parts for filling the receptacle whereby the therefrom in A.the desired small quantities may be performedto advantage, while at 'the same time ample provision is madeforpreventing accidental leakage `of `the powder To this end, it is one of the objectsl of my invention to provide a construction in which an outwardly convex closure plate is used for closing the opening through which the powder is normally inserted into the box, such closure plate being adapted to extend outwardly slightly beyond the seat against which it closes, whereby a light pressure cancvery readily be applied thereto manually for displacing it from closing position without having the fingers actually enter the opening and whereby the powder may be yvery readily cleared from the top face oit the closure plate without the necessity for tipping the box.

Referring particularly to Figs. 1 to 4 in which corresponding parts are indicated by the same reference characters,-1O indicates a casing formed or' sheet metal and havinga cover llpivotly mounted thereon by the use ofa hinge 12. In the construction shown, the
cover 11 is provided with a flange 13 which has a working lit upon the reduced upper edge portion of the casing 10. Within the flange 13 in the Construction illustrated, there is mounted a mirror 14 held in" position by a ring 15.
As best shown in Fig. 3, the upper edge of the sheet metal forming the casing 10 is turned inwardly anddownwardly in the form o an yannular flange 16. Below lthe flange 16 I have vprovided a closure plate 17 which is normally pressedupwardly into position for closing the lopening defined by the flange 16 by means of a volute spring 18 which is interposed between the plate 17 and the bottom tace of the casing 10. The closure plate 1'? is of such a size as to have free movement within the casing 10 butsuch as to' be held from moving laterally outofv engagement with the inner edge of the flange 16. The casing 10 and closure plate 17 are arranged so as to be substantially air tight when tha im vcomtained in the casing is forced by pneumatic action about the edge of the closure late and'underneath the flange .16 into conclosure' plate, such compact being shown in the dotted lines in Fig. 3 and being indicated by the numeral 19. .inasmuch as this coustruction is shown and claimed in parent ap-y plication 10,736 above referred to, it'is believed to be unnecessary to describe the same further in detail herein.
F-or filling the casing 10, Ihave provided an opening '20 in central position through the closure plate 17,. the portion of the plate -17 adjacent to the opening20 being dished inwardly as indicated at 21. For 4closing the opening20 I have provided` an outwardly convex plate 22 which is held in position for closing the opening by means of a coiled spring 23 interposed between the plate 22 andl 4the bottom face ofthe casing. Asl willl be readily understood, the spring 28 serves to press both the plate 22 and the plate 17 'upwardly into. closing position, it being evident' that a heavy spring 23 would'sufice without l providing a spring 18. I prefer, however, to
provide the two springs for holding the plates in position independently of `each other.
When it is desired to fill the casing 1t),
this can be accomplished by pressing the plate 22 downwardly with respect to the plate 17 against the action of the springf23` into the position as shown in Fig. 4 whereupon a supply of powder can lreadilybe poured into the ox about the plate A22, the powder being adapted very readily to find its way into the casing by reason of the'dished formation of the plate 17 at'21 and by reason of the convex vform of the plate 22. When the desired supply of powder has been inserted, the spring 23 serves to raise the plate 22 into closing position as soon as the pressure thereon has been released, and vin the operation of the device normally for ejecting the powder about the edge of the plate 17 the plates 17 and 22 lserve together as the ejecting means justas a ysingle integral platel would serve.A By reason of the curved formation of the plate 22, it is immaterial at whatposition the plate 22 stands since it is adapted to close the opening 20 in any adjusted position it is likelyto assume.
` In the construction shown in Fig. 5, a casing 24 is provided in the form of yan insert for face of the casing, however, is provided by v a separately formed flange provided by the use of a ring 27 pressed into the upper end of the casing 24. A closure plate 28 is provided being dished downwardly with respect to the opening through` the ring 27 substantially throughout the entire `diameter of the plate.
The construction in other respects is similar to that above described except that the spring 23 in the construction shown is secured by means of solder to both the closure plate 22 and the bottom face of the casing 24, and that the spring 18 is secured bv solder to 'the bottom face of the casing 24. Inasmuch as the operation of the device of Fig. 5 is the same as that above described, it is believed to be unnecessary to describe the same further herein. AThe only difference is that the action of the parts is made a little more positive by reason of the solder connection of the springs and that the filling operation in connection with the structure of Fig. 5 might be slightly facilitated by reason of the increased dishing of the plate 28. In the use of either of 'the constructions, the outwardly convexed plate`22 is very readily hushed/downward for iillingthe box by reason ofthe fact that the plate'extends upwardly beyond the .ad-
