desired and which has its valve opened to admit gas.
It is apparent that such procedure is slow, l uncertain, inconvenient and wasteful, requiring the use of both hands to operate.
To'evade many of these disadvantages is the main object of the present invention, the' device avoiding the use of a fiashlvalve on the pilot and the waste of gas consumed by streams of flame directed uselessly outward. These and other advantages, which will later appear, are accomplished by the simple andpractical construction and arrangement as of parts hereinafter described and exhibited in the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view showing a conventional arrangement of burners connected in so accordance with the invention.

In the layout shown in Figure 1, a capped header is-designated by the numeral 10, the same being connected with a gas supply by the pipe 11.

At. the outer end of the extensions 22 are double coned enlargements 25 engaged by sleeves 26 threaded on to small tubes 27 27 27 and 27 d for which they act as unions.
Extending at right angles from the header 10 intermediate its length is a branch 28 connected by a union 29 to a tube 30 bent upwardly at a right angle at a point substantially intermediate the four burners, the tube entering a cup 31, having a plurality of air openings 32 in its bottom, and leading to a constantly burning pilot light 33.
The auxiliary pipes27, 27 27 and 27 d are bent as best seen in Figures. 1, 2 and 3, to enter the cup 31, pass through the perforated cap 34 having a central opening 35in register with the pilot 33, wherethe pipesare further bent into a horizontal plane, so that they pass over the opening 35 in staggered offset relation, finally leading outwardly through recesses 36 in a' pilot cover 37, to their v respective burners 21, 21, 21 and 21. 7
The pipes 27 27 ,27 and 27 are provided in their undersides with perforations 38 extending from a point where the same passes over the pilot 33 to their outer free ends at the burners.
Thus, if it is desired to light the burner 21*, it is merely necessary to open the correspondmgvalve handle 13, permitting gas to flow to the burner 21 and at the same time through the auxiliary pipe 27. When-the gas in the pipe 27 a passes over the p 1lot light 33, it will, because of the perforatlons 38, become ignited, the flame travelling along theremainder of the pipe 27', until it reaches the burner 21 where it will ignite the gas issuing therefrom.
Thus it may be seen that a ,pilot light has been disclosed, by which any slngle or series of burners ma be ignited instantaneously, in a convenient manner and without a waste of gas.
It will also be noted that the burner is much safer than the present flash pilots inasmuch as there are no exposed outwardly flaring flames when supplying the burners with fuel as is the case if a flash pilot is used.
The foregoing disclosure is to be regarded as descriptive and illustrative only, and not as restrictive or limitative of the invention, of which obviously an embodiment may be constructed including many modifications without departing from the general scope herein indicated and denoted in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a pilot burner for a plurality of gas burners each having independent controls, a
pilot burner connected with the source of gas supply, a cup surrounding said pilot burner,
a perforate cap over said cup, a plurality of pipes one for each main burner arranged over said cap and provided with perforations, said pipes having controllable connections with the gassifpply source at one end and extending to the main burners at their opposite ends, and a cover over said pipes and pilot burner.
2. In a device for selectively igniting a plurality of gas burners, the combination with a header having controllable connections with each burner and a pilot burner in open communication with the header, of branches leading from each of said burner connections over said pilot burner, said branches having a straight row of perforations in their under sides to permit gas to be ignited by the pilot communicates, and an inverted cup covering said'branches over the pilot burner.
