Description

Sept. 25, 1928.
J. KOCH SHELF STRIP Filed March 29, 1927 Inventor Patented Sept. 25, 1928;
PATENT OFFICE JACOB KOCH, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
SHELF s'rRIP.
Application filed March 29, 1927. Serial No. 179,373.
The present invention relates to a strip to be placed on the outer edge of a shelf to hold price tags and the like.
The principal object of the invention lies in the provision of a device of this nature,
which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, attractive in appearance, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adaptedto be used for the purpose for which it is designed.
Another important obj ect of the invention lies in the provision of a strip of this nature which is designed for means which enables the price tags to be easily taken therefrom and easily inserted therein.
With the above and numerous other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a view showing several of the strips attached to the edge of the shelf.
Figure 2 is a vertical section therethrough, taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the strips.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that each strip is formed from asingle sheet of metal stamped to provide an oblong body 5, having flanges 6 on the major portion of the intermediate length of the longitudinal edges, said flanges being bent'over upon the body 5, for the purpose of slidably receiving a card or tag 7 containing the prices of goods. The body 5 is formed with apertures 8, so that the strip may be readily nailed to the edge of the shelf. The ends of the body 5, therefore, 0 project beyond the ends of the flanges 6. Now
the transverse terminal edges of the body 5 intermediate their ends are stamped outwardly or forwardly as is indicated at 9. It will thus be seen that when these strips are disposed one alongside the oflier upon a long shelf, such as is indicated in Figure 1, that a price card or tag 7 may he slid along one end of the strip in which it is disposed, so as to engage the projection 9, thus raising one end of the card so that the fingers may be engaged therewith and the card readily pulled from the strip. These projections 9 also assist in engaging the card in the strip, since they tend to engage the card upon it. being inserted in one end, so as to bend the card along the median longitudinal dimension so that the edges will engage in the spaces between the flanges 6 and the body 5 as will be readily apparent.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodimentof the invention has been disclosed in detail merely by way of example, since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the de-' tails of construction and in the sizes, and material may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
A device of the class described formed from a single sheetof metal stamped to provide an oblong flat body having means on the longitudinal edges thereof for slidablyholding a. card, said means terminating a distance from each end of the body, and each end of the body at its edge being stamped to form a projection V-shaped in cross section and tapering inwardly.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JACOB KOCH.
