ALFRED I. MASURY, OF NEW YORK, N. 'Y., A SSIGNOR TO INTERNATIONAL MOTOR COMPANY, or NEW YORK, N. Y.,
A CORPORATION 'OF DELAWARE.
SUSPENSION FOR ELECTRIC RAILWAY MOTORS.
Application filed July 6,
This invention relates to suspensions for electric railway motors and pertains particularly to a-suspension for an electric railway motor which is mounted 'on the axle of the truck. According to the invention it is proposed to mount two, housings in spaced relation to one another upon one'end of a motor which is mounted upon the axle of the truck.
'. Within the housings are disposed blocks of yielding non-metallic material adapted vto receive the ends of a leaf spring which is rigidly attached at its mid-point to the bolster transom of the truck. Thus, startingand stopping torques of the motor are yieldingly resisted and the necessary torque reaction for the motor is provided.
- For a better understandin of the invention reference is to be had to the ollowing detailed accompanying mounted upon the axle b of the truck. To the nose of the motor a are bolted housings a a within which are disposed blocks of yielding non-metallic material, as a.
of a leaf spring 0, 'rigidly'attached to the bolster transom of the truck by means of the bracket 0' and the clamp 0 riveted thereto are disposed within the blocks of yielding nonmetallic material as at c.
It will be seen that the unbalanced weight of the nose of the motor is supported by the The ends 1927. Serial No. 203,717.
spring 0 through the blocks of yieldin nenmetallic material and that starting an stopping torques are yieldingly resisted thereby, being transmitted with diminished intensity to the bolster transom. of the truck; The necessary torque reaction for the motor is provided by the'spring and transmitted to the bolster transom.
' Obviously, the spring a might be rigidly attached to the motor by'means of the clamp c and the housings a", (1 attached to the bolster transom of the truck. This and other changes inthe relative disposition of parts will readily suggest themselves and no limitation is intended except as indicated in the following claims. 1
What I claim is:
'1. In combination with a railway truck, a
motor mounted on the axle, housings mounted upon the nose of the motor, blocks of yielding nonmetallic material disposed within the housings, and a leaf spring carried rigidly with the bolster transom of the truck'and hav-. ing its ends disposed within the blocks of yielding non-metallic material,
2. In combination with a wheeled vehicle, a motor mounted on the axle, torque reaction means interposed operatively between the motor and the frame and comprising housings carried with one of the last named members, yielding non-metallic material disposed within the housings, and a leaf spring carried with the other of said last named members and having its ends disposed. within said yielding non-metallic material.
This specification signed this 30th day of June, A. D.-1927.
